Just wondering what others are doing for worming including lungworm. My vet has let me have dorontal which is the same as my pup was having when with her breeder. I was keen on keeping the same as I know she has been fine with it. He suggested monthly until 6 months and then continue the same or reduce to 3 monthly although he did mention that monthly for ever would be best for lungworm

Talking to others the products vary so much I am really confused as to what is best and what would be the correct frequency for a dog living in a suburban environment. i am not worried about ticks  and like to keep the amount of chemicals my dogs are subjected too down to a minimum.I also only treat for fleas if they appear
What do others think ?

I don't think Drontal treats lungworm, Panacur does, my dog was given that as a 7 day treatment.

...just remembered my vet said Advocate used monthly is good as a preventative.

drontal yes I am not sure although I did discuss lungworm with him and his reply was its best if you do it monthly but 3 monthly is ok 6 monthly may be ok too.
Now I feel somewhat less convinced I have what I need. i was hoping not to use a spot on and also find something that covers everthing. Might have to ring them again

I do pups monthly to 6 months with Panacur, then once a year in summer with a multiwormer (drontal equivalent).

Rest of the time it's Panacur, always when a bitch comes in season and (whetehr due to be mated or not) everyone gets done, then when any pups leave everyone gets done, and then about every 3 months at other times.

None of mine show an interest in slugs and snails, if I had any suspicions I might move to monthly Panacur as preventative.

I know it's 7 days half dose to treat Lungworm, so not sure if a single dose as preventative would be OK.

Drontol doesn't treat lungworm.
I use Advocate to cover that aspect when young and as we live very rural and also partially raw fed I add Drontal on top too when young.

Do you have a bit issue with slugs in your area then FF?

Yeesss the slimy ones are all over. Have even been known to find their way up the kitchen wall on occasion ! ( think they come through the cat flap LOL. i think we are in a bit of strange area being croydon (thats strange enough) one way, very townie and then directly behind fields and wood and farmland
After speaking to bayer who make both drontal and advocat I have decided to do drontal now to cover everything except lungworm and  then  advocat  and monthly thereafter. Does that sound similar to you Sue ? what regime do you use
As you know I raw feed so if I drontal a couple of times a year that will cover tapeworm and apparently the two together will be fine.
I bought the drontal from the vets at £10.50 for 2 tabs so am looking online have found them at £1.66 per tablet !!
Think I will all so rethink worming for the other two I need to sort it out as things have changed
The man from bayer did say that advocat is the only one licenced in the uk to use as a preventative for lungworm

I used to think 6 monthly Drontal was okay for tapeworm, but my dog just very recently had tapeworm, and had been treated with Drontal only less than 3 months ago.  So from now on, I am going to give Drontal every 3 months.
