You will get many opinions on how and when to start weaning but in the main I think unless there are any problems with your bitch, most people will start around 3 weeks of age.

What to give them - I don't give them scrambled eggs, rice pudding etc , I tend to start with either Lactol or goats milk to see if they can lap ok and then add soaked puppy food whizzed up with goats milk into a fairly runny consistancy which I make thicker over the following days.  I do also give them meat meals later on - either canned, pouches or raw for variety.

It's a bit of trial and error as to what suits the pups and is easier for you - good luck

In general it is somewhere between 3-4 weeks,

Pups and litters will vary though the way that I do it is my girl gets scrambled egg made with goats milk every morning as her first breakfast in the whelping area, the pups go from showing no interest in her breakfast to coming over for a nosy, to licking and eating it along with her, once they show an interest that is when I begin to give them their own scrambled egg with goats milk, so you don't get any trial and errors the pups let me know when they are ready to eat.

I'll then progress to soaked food (warm water, not hot as hot will kill off all vits etc)  adding chicken, mince meat, white fish, also the same meals made with rice to give lots of tastes and textures. :-)

I do the same as Carrington, pups let me know when they are ready.
