My mum & dad's very much loved budgie is not very well, he hasn't eaten or drunk for the last 24hrs, has a vets appointment in the morning (needs to await appointment with exotics vet) we have sprayed the cage with water but he his very sad looking :-( he is opening and closing his beak (which makes me think its a respiratory infection?) but any ideas gratefully recieved TIA Angela
I do hope your little bird is better soon--I hate to say it, but I would take him in straight away if you can. That opening and closing of beak is not in my experience ever a good sign in any bird and if he has already been unable to eat or drink for the last 24 hours he really needs help now.
I'd be going to the Vet too beforehand if possible. Definately sounds like respiratory infection in his air sacs. Maybe his cage has been sitting in a draught :(
They normally give you something like Baytril to add to the water but they would need to tell the vet he's not eating and drinking so maybe they can come up another way of getting the antibiotics into him.
He's at the vets :-(, fingers crossed I hope he's OK, he's a lovely little character and very much loved :-( Thanks for the advise, will keep you updated
