I have had a CKCS for about 6 years and for some time I have been sneezing and have had swollen eyes.  I have never suffered from hay fever so am wondering if I could be having a reaction to my dog. It's difficult to avoid being close to him !!  Is there anything on the market to help combat this.

Antihistamine tablets

Nova is right.  I suddenly started having hay fever symptoms 2 years ago in my mid-thirties and now need to take medication.  I would buy some and see how you re-act.  Also, you maybe re-act more when the dog is about because the pollen gets caught up in his coat when out walking.  When it's high pollen here, I hoover my dogs when we come home to take the pollen away.

Try antihistamines, but you could also see your GP and ask for allergy testing if you're really concerned.  I've done it when I developed chronic rhinitis/sinusitis - I was worried it was the dogs but thankfully it wasn't, I'd developed an allergy to my rats and mice.

Depends on the symptoms I guess - mine didn't fit with hayfever so I figured something else was going on.

I didnt start suffering from my allergy to tree pollen until I was in my forties.  All it took was one woodland walk with birch pollen flooding my system!  Piriton works well for me :-)

You can get allergies any time so wdn't necessarily blame your dog,

You can get the tablets from your doctor, if they are prepared to give you a years prescription you should find it cheaper than buying them.

Would buy some first and see if they help, does not matter what you are allergic too they will still work be it hay fever or dog fever.

Or if you live in Scotland all prescriptions are free :-) I used to buy OTC antihistamines but now get the doc to prescribe them.

Im allergic to hay (had an allergy test, but after ive been into contact with hay i have to change and wash to get away from it) im suffering now and have had it quite severe for a good ten years now. Always worst around exam time. Nothings ever been able to relieve me, even had steroids one year. Have a test, i had mine from tesco for £10, blood sample carry on with your shopping and then you can get results.

i wouldnt bother with an allergy test. i was allergic to everything- house dust mites being the worst! luckily i grew out of mine
nova, do you have a gp who gives you a years supply of stuff at a time? we are only allowed 2 months of anything!

yes, but been on them for ages and have never had a test, it does not help to know what it is unless you can get away from it and unless it is really causing you damage to deal with the symptoms seems enough.
