Hi I have just laid a concrete base for my new kennel and run, to be delivered an installed next week. Do I need to seal it? if so can anyone tell me what sort of sealant to use, and if there is a particular brand that you would recommend. I have been told to wait 28 days before sealing the base so that the concrete dries out properly first.
Thanks

Depends on the floor. I have had my kennels re concreted recently. The first lot was terrible, more of a general concrete mix (for a house or something) and way too wet a mix. It looked lovely, briefly but soon started to crack up. You could see the hardcore underneath after a while and the urine just sank into it and caused terrible pong as you can imagine that no amount of specialised product got rid of.

Got another firm in and they shot blasted the top off and screeded with Granno. It is now fabulous, no smell, concrete that is as hard as iron and it doesn't need to be sealed. First lot was just not the right type of concrete for a kennel floor but you live and learn.

Just built our utility dog area and we sealed the floor with a screed but you can buy floor paint from B&Q that will seal the floor. Concrete isnt waterproof - if it was it would not dry out so yes it will need sealing.
