It's that time of year again, 8 dogs have died after being walked on a footpath near Keighley, all 8 were seen in the stagnant water there and it is now thought (pending full pms) that the blue-green algae in the water is responsible :-(

My dogs love swimming and paddling in muddy puddles and stagnant water is a favourite, please remember to keep your dogs away from any water that isn't flowing well - it can be difficult to tell the difference between safe algae and the poisonous stuff - best to avoid it all together.

Thank you for the info, I've had various messages warning me about this incident in Keighley, but not one has mentioned blue green algae.. in fact the last one said that the RSPCA believed it could be deliberate poisoning.  Where did you find out that it was blue green algae?

My dogs have been swimming for soooo long due to this, luckily our local water park is clear at the moment so they've been for a swim today.

Yes, certainly is tragic. Blue/green algae has been ruled out by EA. Outcome of PMs not known yet.

It was the local radio station website that said they suspected blue-green algae. Even if it's not the case here it doesn't hurt to highlight it.

Definitely doesn't hurt, but being local I would like to know for sure what has happened!
