Hi everyone. Great forum, I've been reading your advice for a little. I have a query which I hope one of you may be able to help with. Basically my mother had a Jack Russell pup. We tried our best to persevere and train her but she was very wild and not great around kids. We asked around and it was suggested we place a classified ad free to good home. We found what we thought was a suitable home (no kids farm type home, nice people). Anyway by chance I have found my mothers dog now advertised for sale on epupz. I don't think she was too much for.them too handle as they made no.effort.to contact. Could this be scam often.occurring? If so is there anything that can be done. Thanks

I'm sorry but this is I have heard quite a common thing.
some people are serial dog owners.  ie get them free then let them go again and try another one.(which also doesn't last long)
the other type are those who will take anything that is offered free that has a value- they then sell on and pocket a profit. :(
unless you had the rehomer sign a witnessed legally written up contract saying they had to return the dog to you if no longer wanted then there is nothing you can do as she no longer belongs to you.:(

Thanks for the reply...pretty much what I was thinking...gutted. quite tempted to reply to their ad and challenge them. But, as you say, she is their dog now.

Which you could buy back.

I was thinking the same thing JeanSW, can you not buy the dog back and then try and find a good forever home for her? Are you in a position to keep her now?

I would buy her back pronto, get a friend to call up for you.

Just for reference, never, ever, ever offer a dog on any website for free to good home, it will encourage not only impulse buyers who will buy in haste and get rid just as quick but you are leaving a dog wide open to everything from puppy farmers to people who will buy and sell a dog on as as happened here. When people get given a dog, it often has no value to them and is far easier to give it away just the same.

The only time it works is if you give to a friend or family member that way in knowing you, they are likely to put more effort in and not be deceptive.

Why don't you call up a local rescue or breed specific rescue, if you can not keep the dog ask if they have a place for her as they will at least vet properly, do home visits and take a charity payment, if they can take her, immediate buy the dog back via a friend, take the loss of the cost as a lesson learnt and then pop the dog over to the rescue centre.

Otherwise it may well be on your conscience how this dog ends up.

Why not buy her back, and if you cant keep her, take her to  your local rescue centre for re-homing,at least that way, you will know they (rescue) will  place her in the "right" home!

Know someone who's mother died leaving a bull breed bitch behind, family rehomed free to a good home etc only to see her advertised a wk later at a whooping £600!
