Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / lump on neck after chipping
- By Ghost [gb] Date 10.05.11 20:02 UTC
Hi all,
I microchipped all my 8 wk old pups before they left - i know some people are against this incase the chip migrates however I was worried that should the worse happen - traffic accident etc my babies would not be traceable. So i opted to chip them all before they leave.
This being my first litter, and never having chipped this early before i dont know if it is the norm for them to have a lump where they were chipped ?

Yes, it can be normal for a lump to appear after chipping, it should go down within 14 days if not long before. :-) If it becomes sore or the pup/s seem to be in pain, take to your vet for a check up, but this happens sometimes, generally nothing to worry about.

but why a lump on the neck, the implantation site is supposed to be in the skin above the withers?????

Did you get them done at the same time as vaccination? If so then the lump is probably from the vaccination.
