You can show at Companion Shows but not at Limited, Open of Championship shows.

BTW there is no such breed as a miniature Yorkshire Terrier they are just called Yorkshire Terriers.

You will have to join the KC Companion Dog Club to show at companion shows -

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/386 - there is a list of upcoming shows too

You can show at any of the fun shows held at fetes, fairs, vets, schools etc as well :)

You do not have to join any club to show in pedigree classes at Companion shows, though of course your free to do so.

Oh sorry Brainless - I thought that as he wasn't KC registered he would have to join the companion club to show and that he couldn't join the pedigree classes! Shows how much I know!!! :-D

When you say 'you got him without papers' - does that mean your breeder couldn't register him or just didn't bother?

I understand from previous topics on here that some breeders (although probably not very good ones from a showing perspective) will ask more money for papers.  If that is the case, and your dog is from KC registered parents, then perhaps the original breeder could point you in the right direction

Generally a puppy that isn't KC registered simply can't be.

Either it is a close mating that isn't allowed, the parents are nto themselves registered, or have restrictions on their papers put on by their breeders to stop them being exploited.

The bitch is to young or old, had too many litters etc, so none of the reasons are good.

Occasionally breeders will sell registrable puppies without papers because they have some fault that makes them unshowable or unfit for breeding.

Those who claim they can sell you a pup registered for more money are either bluffing or will be giving false papers, after all it only costs £12 per puppy to register them.

It's the health testing, showing, vet care and rearing that cost the major money.

Agree, particularly with a breed like a Yorkie if they can be registered then they are likely to be. It is always possible the breeder just did not bother but then one wonders what else they did not bother with.

I am sure the OP can show the dog at companion shows and then if they get the bug they can consider getting another from a more reliable source and try their luck in the show world proper.

What about this new idea for registering unregistered dogs, could that be of any use? In the meantime yes you can do companion shows, which are a great way of getting experience with showing anyway.

there are other events aside from the beauty contests you might want to consider.  how about having a shot at obedience or mini agility?  too young right now but could be something for future :)

Companion shows are open to all dogs - any pedigree (with or without registration papers) may enter the pedigree classes (as long as it has not won CC, Rcc etc) and opne to any dog at all for the novelty classes.  IF a specific "Companion Dog Club" class is scheduled then that class is only open to members dogs'.
