She is behaving very strangely, hanging around in the garden staring at the gate meowing constantly but wont come inside.
When she was inside earlier she was wandering around calling too.

I have been away for a few days and only got back this evening but i have been away before and she has always been fine.

Very concerned about her (she is 5 yrs and spayed)

My cat who took to going into the garden and meowing had a bad end which i won't go into. Had i realised the relevance and taken her to the vet she may have had longer.

If i were you i would take her to the vet for a check up. Ssending best wishes her way. XXX

I agree, any change in personality or behaviour straight to the vet, if she has been used to you going away for a day or two and been fine before there is no point in trying to work out why she is calling or meowing in distress, it could be anything.

Hope all is well.

Our cat had a 'funny' episode recently too, stopped eating and drinking.  We took him to the vets, he had full blood works done, all came back normal, he is neutered, mouth/teeth were fine, throat was fine and nothing stuck in his mouth.  A week of AB's and he's now back to normal, something we'll probably never get to the bottom of, but worry none the least.

cats are very good at hiding pain I would have her at the vet asap

Thanks everyone, she seemed totally back to normal this morning but i took her for a check up at the vets just to be on the safe side. She got the all clear and is now laying in the sun totally normal!

Funnily enough, this morning i noticed that one of my windows looks like it has possibly been tampered with...like someone has possibly tried to force it open (they are huge single glazed bay windows) so im thinking maybe someone has been around that shouldnt have been and that may have freaked her out. I guess i will never know though!

Glad your cat is on the mend :)

We've had cats to look after over the years that have suffered from senality.  They suffer from the same sort of it as humans do. They stare at walls etc and look vacant sometimes too.  Also thyroid problems can cause them to meow really loudly and act oddly.

Hopefully its nothing like that and she keeps improving anyway :)

Could well be that her meowing was to tell you about a stranger lurking behind the garden gate......

My dog is completely pants as a watch dog, but the cat is spot-on!

Whatever it was, glad she's back to normal.

That doesnt freak me out at all!! lol, seriously though, there was definately nobody there...if there was they would have been eaten by a GSD when i let her in the garden!

Anyway, this evening the meowing and pacing has started again....

:(

The thing is, you don't know if something has frightened her while you have been away. As shes' had a clean bill of health from the vets it could be anything in the environemnt that has spooked her.
Is there any new cats in the neighbourhood, or any new visiting toms prowling around?

When my cat was speyed (at about 3yrs old), she was so traumatised at being left at the vets for the op (she's frightened of strangers), that she spent the next 4 days attacking my dog if he walked into the kitchen (not Buster, my previous dog) and attaking my husband if he spoke :(

I wonder if a DAP difuser may help her settle? (well, the cat version).

2 of my cats act very strange when I come back from being away they meow go all wide eyed and skulk around for 24 hours, it's as if they are a little put out at you leaving them, alot of ragdolls are like that as they are very people orientated.

I think alot of my customers cats get the hump too when they go home :)

They are in and out of the house and garden checking that everything is still in order.  I think some of the ones that are abit aloof, are more fussier and friendlier for a while too. However I think this is generally short lived and they soon get back in to their normal routine.

I think the sulking can range from a few hours to a week lol.  At least with a dog you can generally woo them around with treats whereas with a cat, they can be more finicky and they like to keep their owners on their toes for as long as possible :)
