When you have a bitch with pups at home, but you take another dog out somewhere where it comes into contact with other dogs, I was just wondering what precautions (if any) you take or what you do on returning home? (Those of you who do this.) For eg - taking another dog in the household to shows, to training classes or even just letting another dog in the household have a play with other another dog it meets on walks.
I was thinking of a light mist and wipe down with a dog-friendly disinfectant (like Safe4Dogs), and a paw-dip tray before the dog comes into the house. Is this enough? Too much? What do others do? Thanks.
I only took other ones to parents but they have foxes about. I treated others like i did my girl wiping them down when we got home, she got wiped every time she went outside.
I didn't do any shows but the general rule is, change your clothes when you get home and disinfect as usual. i had another dog round before pups were walking, they got the treatment as well.
As above full change of clothing, use a parvocide disinfectant on everything from dogs feet to door mats to floors to making up spray bottles. I always have a large bottle of the stuff whenever I have pups. :-)

Great, thanks - the Safe4Dogs stuff is a parvocide and also kills all sorts of other stuff too. (It is like Virkon.) I plan on getting a giant tub of it and spray bottles and having a paw-dipping and shoe-sole dipping tray too.

I just avoided too much contact with the other dogs, then wiped down and changed clothes like others have said.
