Morning to you all! It's been two weeks since Tao's opp and he is doing well the wound that stretched the entire length of his abdomin is healing nicely with no infections etc.
The test results came back from Tao's abnormal splean, and that's all it was abnormal nothing sinister, however the long piece of tissue came back as containing cancerous cells :-( but we were waiting to speak further with the patholigist to find out what kind of cancer, where it was in his body and if we are able to treat it etc, We were refured to Willows in Birmingham were they had planned to do a CT scan to see if our own vets had missed a small tumor in his stomach/intestines. We came away from Willows on Tuesday of this week with the news that Tao has prostrate Cancer but once again this could not be 100% confirmed unless they took samples of the prostrate. This in turn could lead to the cancer spreading (we decided against it) the cancer is non treatable unless we go down the chemo route (so again we have decided against).
On the up side Tao is doing very well and no further build up of fluid has been found in his abdominal cavity, the vets drained away over 3ltrs of fluid when the opened him up to remove his splean. - this is what was causing him to fit- fall to the ground in pain (not the cancer it's self or not directly related).
Tao has been put bacl onto Metacam to help slow down the cancerous cells (carcinoma) he is going back to the vets in 1 month to be re scanned to monitor his tummy for fluid as we can drain it off before it causes him discomfort. we dont know how long we have left with our boy but untill we see signs that he is no longer well we will continue with normal day to day activities.
Last night he slept on the sofa!!!!! and had extra meat in his tea!!! I think this boy is going to be seriously spoilt!!! he has been through so much this past year what with a ruptured bladder where we almost lost him to loosing his best friend only 5 weeks ago.
Our dogs are such special friends and i know my boy & all his friends have had the best life possible.
One question- He has been put on the 1.5mg Metacam liquid but this alone is not enough to help him with his artritus (he has been on PLT'S) WHICH WERE GREAT BY THE WAY!! He can't take them both so had anyone used or knows about the 2.5mg tablets? i was hoping to speak to my vet about them after he has finished the bottle of 1.5mg.
Thanks again
Sarah & Tao x
