I like my Andis ones, not cheap but it's well worth getting the professional stuff imho, you honestly get a much better trim than with pet clippers or scissors and you soon make the money back by not going to groomers! (I shouldn't say that as a groomer lol)

I use the Moser 45 and honestly wouldn't recommend them!!  Only had it a few months and every time I use it (well, used it as I've stopped grooming now) I have to repeatedly tighten the screws on the blade holding bit (I'm sure there's a proper name for that...).  It just keeps loosening as soon as I turn them on.

Andis and Oster are good makes.

Hi I have American Cockers that I now keep in a pet trim, and my first clippers were the standard Oster A5. I hated them. They ran extremely hot which meant I could hardly keep them in my hand. I recently replaced them with Andis two speed clippers and the difference is amazing. I would recommend them.

Another Andis recommendation here.  I have both single speed and two speed, really get on well with both.
Have tried other brands, but just not as keen on them.

thankyou all so much for your help, i must admit i have been looking on the net at Andis & you have all confirmed what i have been thinking, that it may be worth spending a bit more.

Like Dawn I have American Cockers, and also sued to have Osters.  I changed to the Laube Minis, which I like a lot due to lightness, variable speed etc, but they did seem to need servicing very often, even though some of the parts you can change yourself.  I needed new clippers in a hurry about 3 years ago and one of the online pet places had an introductory offer on the (then) new Whal Switchblade, they have variable speed, lightweight, good shape to hold and have given me trouble free use since I got them.  I think they may be not up to full time use in a grooming salon, but for a couple of American cockers plus another 5 or 6 per month who visit for a trim they are fine.
