Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Raw to go food suppliers what are they like
- By HAMISH75 [gb] Date 10.04.11 13:50 UTC
Hi All

Just wondering the people that are using the raw to go food how they are finding it? Does it arrive frozen seeing as it is sent through royal mail as they aren't the quickest of firms, also as there food contains offal does anybody find this makes their dogs loose as i have heard offal can loosen some dogs? I have been using natural instinct but it works out expensive and also doesn't contain offal and i know i need to give robbie offal in his diet to balance the food out.

I don't know about raw to go, but would say Natural Instinct does contain offal, at least in some of the varieties. As someone else suggested on another thread it would probably be easiest for you to get some liver, liquidise it, freeze it into ice-cube trays and just add it each day to his mince meat meals.

Would i need heart aswell as liver? The natural instinct meat that i have got doesn't contain offal its only the fruit and veg 1's that do i use the pure meat.
Is lambs liver best and would you cook this or just leave it raw?

If you are currently feeding chicken and lamb I'd probably use lamb and/or chicken liver, so you are keeping to the same species. I often feed pigs liver and sometimes Ox liver, but my lot aren't fussy and don't have any allergy/digestive problems.

For the purposes of raw feeding heart is classed as muscle meat rather than offal, so wouldn't be included in the 10% offal. You could try kidney as well, which would be classed as offal, but I'd start with the liver and yes, feed it raw.

Yes,the Rawtogo arrives frozen in polystyrene containers, the delivery is fast and they ask you what day you want it delivered.
None of my dogs have ever been loose because of the offal in it.

Would you have to feed liver everyday with the meat or just a couple of times per week, do butchers sell chicken liver?

Word by word the same for me! Jesse is never loose on this at all.

I have only just started using rawtogo and cannot sing their praises enough.  Lesley is wonderful to deal with, the delivery is fantastic - mine has arrived both times before 9am in the morning.  It comes very well packed in polystyrene containers and all the meat is fully frozen still at 5pm that night when I can get it into a freezer.  They deliver to my work but that is my choice - they dont need a signature so can leave it wherever you want it.

The mince is great and comes a good range of different meats.  It has the ratio of 80/10/10 so you dont need to worry about this.  The offal in it has never caused my lot to be loose and they have only been on raw for the past month.

Do you just pick one 'bag' or do you select the individual meats you want making into a mince?

Absolutely the same comments as the others. Really good service, the meat is excellent, the dogs love it and poohs are firm and kickable, although mine do get a chicken carcase each for breakfast as well.
The meat is still frozen even after travelling to NE Scotland

Once a week is enough and Tescos sell chicken livers (frozen) so I am sure most other main supermarkets do, too.

If you fed a very small amount everyday it would be less likely to have an effect resulting in looseness, than if you fed a bigger amount once a week.

As has already been said, chicken liver is widely available in supermarkets (I know my local Tesco sells fresh chicken liver).

Somebody has just said the lamb is very sloppy when defrosted have you found this aswell with their lamb?
- By Sassinak [gb] Date 20.04.11 18:13 UTC
Yes it does seem a bit sloppy and bleeds into the container quite a bit. But since I open 4 packs at a time, I tend to mix the sorts that I am opening and they get a quarter of a pack and the blood gets added as well. They absolutely love it and are really thriving, their coats gleam.

I have been using Raw to Go for about a month , they worked how much i should be giving my dog by the weight,  his poo is so much better. Was a bit nervous but i will not change, well done Raw to Go for helping me and the delivery the next day wonderful or choose the day of delivery.

Best raw supplier I've found is the digs butcher  nationwide delivery.  There is a fb group and website. she dies tater boxes  of 10kg and 29kg both completes with no added bits and pieces just meat offal and bone or  diy food. brilliant range of good quality food. including things like goat venison veal rabbit with fur horse and squirrel

Also be aware if your dig suffers from yeast infections or allergy it's better not to feed fruit and veg.
