evening all,

my girl is 55 days and is restless, especially last night, i was up most of the night following her around to make sure she was ok.
all ok, shes sleepy again today.

ive read that maidens usually whelp early.
I am poised ready to go, but a bit nervous.
I have noticed no shredding but she was digging a little on the duvet last night, then would get up, then back to pawing the duvet. Do you think shes getting herself ready? shes eating small amounts and has no runs. so think its very early stages of preparing, does this sound about right??

Sounds perfectly normal - so reassurance given!  :-)

Trouble is, the little beggars do tend to try their best to catch us out.  If I tell someone to expect their bitch to have the runs - she won't!

At this stage I do take restless girls to bed with me.  But that's easy with my breed, and I understand that a St Bernard whelping in your bed would not be ideal. 

If you do have a small breed, what I've found is, that it's more comfortable for me.  If a bitch is going to have me awake for days, playing me around, then I might as well go for comfortable.  I plump up my cushions, and settle down with a good book.  Not daring to go to sleep, this will normally guarantee that my bitch stops panting, stops digging, and snores like a train!

I know it's easy to say, but take some deep calming breaths.  You don't want your girl to pick up any nervous vibes from you, especially being a maiden.  She could be like this for another couple of days.  Which is how we get grey hair.  Good Luck.  :-)

After 5 restless nights I took Lois into bed with me and she laid on vetbed on top of shower curtain in the crook of my arm and we both got sleep and she went into labour next morning at 8am, no runs here either but a horrendous noise like a seal/sealion when she started pushing which isn't what all females do, they don't read TBOTB to know what is text book behaviour.

Just stay calm, the pups will be lining up and working their way to the exit and she will be confused as to what is going on.

Watching this one my girl is a few days behind you, she is sleeping in my room now but calm and no signs yet.

my girl is on the same day as you and I took her to bed with me last night but she was continually up and down pacing which kept my husband awake so I took her downstairs and slept on the sofa with her.  Start of the sleepless nights!!  She's not showing many signs yet although yesterday evening she kept hiding down the side of the sofa.  I've been taking her temp and its ranges from 98.7-99.8 which is strange as I keep reading the norm is 100-102.  I'm trying not to worry about that too much as the bitch I had before had temps like this and had no changes at all before whelping.  I am keeping a very good eye on her though.  Wonder if we'll have our pups the same day?

im due 11th april too :)  my girl has just starting scratching around the place today and a little panting aswell.

We have a bitch due 11th April also, although I'm thinking she will go a little early as she is a maiden and is loosing her plug with the stringy mucus

i havent noticed any stringy mucus yet as i have a long haired bitch

We are due around the 15th, first time mum too.
Had panting for a few weeks at times but she is very relaxed and lazy at the moment...

Wow wonder who will whelp first :-)
We havehad to close off all the bedrooms, she was under my teenagers bed and struggled to coax her out, dont want her whelping there.
Then shes back to sleeping today, so just not leaving her.
Ive asked her to wait until friday, hehe, like that will work.

Anyone suggest where i can buy glucose powder for her. Read to give it in water wgen whelping starts. Ta x

Which is why I never take temperatures.  I'm aware that some breeders swear by them, but they have never been a reliable indication for me.

Hyperdrug do glucose powder but I got mine from Boots in the end.  I think most chemists sell it.  Usually in the section where you get build up drinks like "complan" etc.  Got my iodine from there too.
