I think i've got a verruca !
I had some as a child ( caught them dancing barefoot in a dance studio ) and had some brown stuff painted on them weekly for a long time , but not sure what they do these days .
Some of the info on the internet says to leave them and they will eventually go away , others say the stuff from the chemist doesn't work .
I really don't want this on my foot so has anyone had any recently and what did you do ?
- By kayenine [gb] Date 26.03.11 21:29 UTC
Tried allsorts of things, nothing worked. Now 5-6 years later I think they're finally going on their own!
- By ludivine1517 Date 26.03.11 21:41 UTC
The stuff from the Chemist does work - you just have to do it every day!
:-) My last one was at least 5 years ago (caught at the swimming-pool)

I think I've got one! A toe was hurting today and I saw a black bit, thought I had something in it, so got some tweezers and pulled! I have never seen so much blood from a toe! I couldn't stop it for ages. I remember the kids having them and I think they had a black centre, but I have never had one. I wonder if I have finished it off? I hope so! I imagine I have picked it up in the swimming pool, as I am learning to swim at my somewhat advanced age!

If it takes six years to go, I'll be in my dotage!!!  :)

I've had one for 3 years now - spent a good 6 months using the stuff at the chemist daily, but after 3 months of doing so it just made it hurt more ! ! ! someone told me only a foot Dr can remove them fast ( can't spell chiropodist?)
- By kayenine [gb] Date 26.03.11 22:35 UTC
If you get them frozen or cut out then it will leave a scar, but if you wait for them to disappear on their own then it doesn't scar.
- By bestdogs Date 26.03.11 22:35 UTC
That doesn't sound good! Yes you can spell chiropodist :)    (To Piratebear)
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 26.03.11 23:16 UTC
I think they use liquid nitrogen on them or cantherone (beetle juice I believe!)
- By kayenine [gb] Date 26.03.11 23:31 UTC
I had a wart frozen off my thumb with liquid nitrogen about 16 years ago, hurt like hell, and when it healed up the b****y thing was still there so I had to have it done again!!! Still have the scar from that too.

I had verrucas for years on my feet, being diabetic they won't remove them or use any chemicals to remove them, so I just had to wait until the virus had died, took about 5 years but I've not had another since.  They can be very painful too.

My daughter had a cluster mosaic of verrucas on her foot about ten years ago. I took her to the chiropodist who used a special wand-like thing (can't remember now what it was) - she had to have about three treatments. The verrucas disappeared and never returned. It was brilliant and not invasive, so she was happy :) :)

I had a couple for about two years, got fed up with them so finally bought some of this;

http://www.expresschemist.co.uk/Scholl-Freeze-Verruca-&-Wart-Remover.html

It's expensive and when I followed the instructions it didn't work first time but I found after about three goes they were gone. I think I'd left it so long they were pretty well established. I've had none since but if I did I'd use this again.

I had one many years ago and the doctor prescribed something that you had to paint on the area (which made the skin go hard) and then slice off the dead skin and hopefully verruca once a week. The verruca itself was extremely painful as was right on the ball of my foot. The treatment was not painful unless I accidently sliced skin that had not been fully treated (OUCH!)

It took ages to go, but did eventually and have not had another since.

I also remember driving my brother to have his frozen at the hospital. He said it was painful, but again it worked.

Hope you get rid of it, they are nasty.

I've used this:

http://www.wartner.eu/uk/wartner/

It works on verrucas and warts on the fingers. Funnily enough, if you have a crop of them and just treat the worst one, they will all disappear once the treated one starts to go. Well mine did, also my poor Mum's who had loads of them.

Thanks for your replies - i'll get something to get rid of it tomorrow .
- By Sunbeams [gb] Date 27.03.11 20:27 UTC
White vinegar is supposed to be good...apparently you soak cottonwool in it, then leave it on overnight, stick it on with duct tape or something.  Do it every night and it shrinks the verruca.
- By georgepig [gb] Date 28.03.11 19:04 UTC
If it's not painful I'd just leave it, they do go away eventually.  I think the chiropodist at work said that the stuff they use is A LOT stronger than the stuff you get at the chemist so not to bother wasting your money.  If it gets painful or bleeds a lot I'd go see your GP just to get it checked out.
- By furriefriends Date 28.03.11 22:31 UTC
I have heard the same as georgepig and would leave alone if not hurting or bleeding.

came back from feet doctor  yesterday with my daughter who has 5 on her feet and they told us they do not treat them on the nhs any more as they are difficult to get rid of, we have to soak her feetin warm water and then take an emmery board and file the tops off them and then put the verruca cream on her feet the one on the top of her toe is filed and then cream put on and a gel bandage is placed on this to stop it rubbing on her shoes told it can take upto 5 years for them to start and go but if we do the feet soak and emery board and cream twice a day we should start and see an improvment in 6 months but keep up with the treatment , they said the best cream was bazzuka we could not get any of that yesterday so go another one going on the hunt for bazzuka today .
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 29.03.11 06:45 UTC
You can get Bazooka in any large Tesco.
- By furriefriends Date 29.03.11 07:58 UTC
I would agree with the five years my daughters probably took that long. Blooming nuisance ! Apparently as they are avirus it takes as long as it takes your body to fight any infection or something like that

> i'll get something to get rid of it tomorrow .

I picked up the Scholl one in Tesco (because it was on offer !)and tried it yesterday but it didn't do anything , so tried again today and absolutely nothing .There is no blister or anything - waste of money.
- By luddingtonhall [nl] Date 29.03.11 20:19 UTC
No I didn't get a blister either, keep going with it and in a couple of weeks mine just got smaller and then oneday - nothing!  It doesn't work overnight though, does say in the instructions it can take up to two weeks to disappear.  And make sure you definately hold it on for the stated time.  You've bought the packet - so why not finish it and I do hope that in doing so it will clear the verruca up.  You've got nothing to loose by finishing it.
- By Debussy [gb] Date 29.03.11 20:37 UTC
Bazzuca has always worked for my kids and I.  After a few applications I start snipping away at the softened hard skin (if you know what I mean) with scissors.  It can take a good few weeks but eventually you can pull the root out with scissors or tweezers.  The thing about leaving them is that they are extremely infectious and going bare footed anywhere is sure to pass the virus onto others.
- By St.Domingo Date 30.03.11 12:24 UTC
The instructions say that you will get a blister and the verruca will come off underneath (or something like that !) .
I have been doing it for the stated time and there is no change at all and it didn't sting or anything when i applied it , it just felt cold .
However , you are right , i will use all of the applicators in the packet and see what happens . Thanks.

The ONLY treatment I've ever seen work for WARTS or Verruccas is an oil made up with TEA TREE and LEMON essential oils.

I had 30 warts on one hand and 50 on the other and several really painful verruccas.  I tried all the over counter stuff to no effect (except my bak account)   Eventually the doctor burnt them all off with liquid nitrogen.  Took several attempts with some and was really painful.   Within a month or so they were ALL back :(

Then, being desperate, I started looking for alternative treatments.   Essential oils were becoming very popular and I found a treatment recipe in one of my books.

Use a small brown eye dropper bottle.   To 5 ml of oil (sunflower, rapeseed etc.) add 10 drops each of Tea Tree and Lemon essential oils.    Agitate the bottle and leave to infuse for a little while.   When ready to use, put a few drops on the verrucca/wart and cover with a 'Bandaid' - it stops the oil rubbing off.   Repeat 2x day until the verrucca/wart is gone.  XXX DO NOT DRINK! XXX    XXX DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT XXX

It's painless and inexpensive.

I didn't really think it would work, but felt I had nothing to lose.  The warts were extremely painful and unsightly and the verruccas were also really painful.    I felt at least they'd be less dry and cracked - but after a week they were starting to go and 2 weeks later they had all gone     They have never come back either :-D

I've also seen this work for others in my family :)

Hope this helps :)

(Some recipes use undiluted essential oils, but as they evaporate so quickly it seems a little pointless to me ;) )
