Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / accuracy as to how many pups

Hi there, Tilly is six weeks pregnant, we had her scanned at 35 days and,vet confirmed it. We saw two pups, but it was, very quick and he didn't have a good look around, my question is do I rescan her to see how many, or s it too late now? Other option is xray but vet said they only do them if a problem is foreseeable, as dogs don't lie still so wasted expense. Or, should I just wait for her to help? Thanks

Why do you need to know how many there are?  Some times a singleton might cause a problem, but you saw two, so I would just wait and see.  Scans aren't always reliable on numbers.

scans are very seldom reliable,at least you know there are two and it's not a singleton.
I had my girl scanned and the vet saw two which I was delighted with, however she had a litter of six 10 days ago which
was a lovely surprise. Many on champdogs have similiar stories, save your money and enjoy the next few weeks.x

I would Xray 7 days before due date in a first timer small breed to see how the pups compare with pelvis size for my own peace of mind.

It seems scans are just to confirm pregnancy so when foeatal sacs are seen then that confirms it, numbers can decrease due to natural absorbtion so not an indication of the final count.
