Hi

Today I went to the local dog pound to try and donate some of my time - I offered to either walk the dogs and I could have done 1 day a week but they said no. They have over 400 dog walkers on their list so dont need any more. Although I was disappointed I was very happy that the dogs get the oportnity to be walked by so many people. Its nice to see that people are still remembering to try and help these dogs. While I was there I saw 1 get chosen for a forever home, two more go on peoples potential list and loads of people call in to drop off food.

There were some lovely dogs there too; I nearly fell for a few but everyone I loved seemed to have a problem with children. One in particular went completely off the rails when my son walked past really made me think he had been mistreated by kids :( I was surprised to see such a cross section of dogs there too a lovely little springer, a bullmastiff and a chocolate doberman all caught my eye and last time I was there there was a lovely old english sheep dog.

My local rescue has a lot of dog walkers, I try to help by giving food and other things they need. I used to run a companion show for a rescue, I am sure they would also love some fund raising done.

Thats not a bad ida - at the moment my fund raising goes towards the NICU at my local hospital (my son used their facilities when he arrived 2 months early) and toys for the childrens hospital at christmas (my son also used them over christmas!) but I guess I could try some fund raising for them too. Its council run but I guess they would accept monitary donations if not its easily converted into dog food/toys/treats/blankets etc. Hmm now I need a plan!!

Kids can appear to be very odd little creatures to dogs that are not used to them, they move differently than adults, have different mannerisms and sound differnt. It may be that the dog was not used to children (well, I'd hope so as that's better than it having suffered torment at the hands of children :( ).

ETA - I have children myself, so the above is not intended to be anti-children!!

Good point. I was tempted to dig out my old animal behaviour books from when I did my degree to see what I could learn from it but yes that could probably be it - you have saved me going into the attic!
