Hi, am i right in thinking that if you have a bobtail litter that the pups with tails do not carry the bobtail gene so they will never produce bobtails unless mated with a bob?

Hi, my Dog (with a tail) mated a bitch ,who was docked, last year. They produced 5 pups, 4 stumped tail and 1 full tail. My dog's parents both had full tails but his dam had natural stumps and bobs in her litter. With my breed you can't predict what tails the pups will have.

If you are talking bobtail Boxers then yes
If you have a bobtail litter those with long tails will not produce
bobtails unless put back to a bobtail.

However I have come across one person that disputed this even
when the 'creator' of the Bobtail Boxer who is a genetics expert
corrected her.
Not sure if she has amended her advertisements since....
As she used to claim that all pups would carry the bobtail gene
even the longtailed ones!

I had a Spanish that looked as though he had a full tail, although we did think his and another ones tail was quite rounded at birth so he must have been one vertebrae short, he went on to produce bobtails so definitely must have been one vertebrae short as I have never in 18 years had full tails produce and kind of shorter tails.
