Topic Dog Boards / Showing / CRUFTS Passing our details on to local press?
- By Dill [gb] Date 13.03.11 17:25 UTC
I've just had a phone call from a local newspaper asking how our dogs did at Crufts Yesterday ???

When I asked where they got my details they replied that the details for our local area were given out by Crufts???   He did NOT say he got my details from the catalogue.

I'm not happy about this, anyone could claim to be press and with very little effort have a nice list of addresses to burgle for well bred dogs

So...

Do Crufts actually give out our details to the local rag? or is someone selling our details on ?

I've had the local paper contact me before after Crufts. I said I didn't want where I lived put in the article and the journalist just put the town where I lived. I think this is a regular thing that the KC do.

You can opt out of this - there's a box to check about not printing your tel no or passing your details on to the press when you do an online Crufts entry and something similar on the paper entry form. We used to be regularly contacted by the local paper until we started checking the box but have had no trouble since.

In one of the publications recently (might have been the Dog World supplement?) there was an article about Fosse Data.  I'm sure this issue was covered, and was something to do with regional papers wanting to be able to get local interest stories.  From what I recall the press can do a Postcode search (?) for entrants

Perhaps someone still has a copy of this section of the paper to check for you.  I think I recycled mine after reading :)

Details have been passed to local papers for as long as I can remember (over 20 years).  At general Ch shows we always tick the box to stop the address being printed.  Simples!

there is a boc on the crufts entry form you should have ticked saying that you didnt want your details passed on to the press prior to crufts,l,,,,,but after the event the results are available to anyone and if your address is in the catalogue its simple to see who is from what area

Exactly why we always tick the box, not to get the address etc printed.

I'm glad my local paper got in contact with me,when my boy took Best of Breed in 2010,they printed a lovely photo and write up,very honoured, and still read the article every now and again, one of the best days of my life going through to the Group that night!!
