Went to the docs this morning with neck pain for the nurse who I saw to almost laugh me out of the surgery because "all you have done is cricked your neck". That may be so (and looking at things I must have a low pain threshold!) but it blummin well hurts and I have been in tears on and off all day because of it.

What I want to know is: I have some kapake handy in the drawer, can I take this instead of the cocodamol she game me with ibuprofen as they are doing sweet FA?!?

Ring Nhs direct to get the right advice on this as it is important you get proper medical advice when it is about taking medication.

Hope you get some relief soon x

Or a local pharmacy if you have one still open.

Have you tried putting something warm like a hot-water bottle on your neck ?

> kapake

if you google it i think you will find that it is the same as cocodamol. Beware that anything with coedine in can constipate you.

I've had this twice so sympathise with you, its like electric shocks up your neck if you move - its very painful!! My doctor called it 'Wry neck' and prescibed Coproxomal and Cocodamol 8 of each max per day - they took the pain away but made me so sick :( ... Hope your painkillers kick in soon :)

Thats interesting cos Ive felt sick all day. The Nurse didnt ask me any questions or check my neck. She just said 'Youve only cricked your neck' as I went in. Thought it was strange she didnt examine me.

Have had a massager on it and heat all day.

I've had this so many times, not only is it painful but you use your neck for every movement you make so there is no relief.  The only thing that works for me is to stand in a shower as hot as I can stand with the water directly on the spot.  Doesn't cure it but improves the pain and increases range of movement.

Last month I had to rush my Doberman to the vet as she was clearly dying, fur dandruffy and motheaten overnight, hardly able to walk, trembling, roached back, abject misery, etc., etc.  Just a 'cricked neck'. She had surgery for bloat at Christmas and made less fuss, so yes, it is very painful and takes at least a week to heal properly.

Try to get to a chiropractor  asap. Tracey.

Chiropractor asap, dr gave me painkillers that made me ill and said do not go to chiropractor, when I went to the chirpractor I got relief almost immediately and exercises to do, it improved within days.
Hope you feel better soon :)

As others have said find a chiropractor, neck pain is debilitating. In the past I have had to wear a soft neck collar, hideous but supportive and gave relief. Also with a chiropractor you will find out what has been done rather than masking it with pain relief. Good luck.

I used to go to a chiropractor but this feels more muscular as the muscle in the left side of my neck is solid, Ive been heating it up and trying to turn my head but it still hurts. Meant to be going on a night out tomorrow for a birthday do, seems like Ill just be going for the meal and then straight back home for me :-(

Poor you I have had this on and off for years and it really hurts. I find diclofenac(voltarol) tablets really good. You can buy them over the counter nowadays but you have to be careful if you  have stomach ulcers or other medical conditions (check with the pharmacist). You could also try alternating ice and heat, I know ice seems like the last thing you'd want to do but it helps reduce inflammation. Finally you could try a massage, go to a physiotherapy practice they should be able to do a more medical massage and adjust the pressure so that it doen't hurt. It does get better hang in there!
