Hi,
I'm completely new to showing and have been going through a few schedules. Can anyone explain what it means when it referrs to CC's. I think it's Challenge Certificates ... what are they?
I notice some classes are more expensive to enter if CCs are on offer.
Thanks

If the dog wins 3 CCs, awarded by 3 different judges, it becomes a Champion.
Ahh I see. And does the winner of each class where a CC is on offer always get offered one or is it the judges discretion?

If you are an unbeaten dog you go in for the CC challenge - the judge will decide who they think deserves the CC. A CC must be awarded.
Not all breeds have CC's.
Some championship shows do not have classes where CC's are on offer.
It is really confusing to begin with but once you get it it's not so bad!

Only the Best Dog (the one who's won his class and then won the 'class' made up of the winners of all the dog classes) and the Best Bitch (the one who's won her class and then won the 'class' made up of the winners of all the bitch classes get a CC.

Just to add to what others have said; not all shows have CCs for all breeds, NORMALLY the best dog and the best bitch gets awarded a CC when they are on offer- but sometimes there is only one CC available for the Best of Breed.
Popular breeds (with a big entry) like Golden Retrievers will have CCs at all championship shows, rarer breeds may have 8-10 shows a year only. Popular breeds may have to beat hundreds of dogs of the same sex for the CC, less popular ones may only have to beat 10-15 and sometimes even less.

No it doesnt actually, best of sex must be awarded but a CC should only be awarded if the judged thinks it is worthy to be a Champion. That is in the UK anyway

Oh I thought it did - sorry my mistake! see still haven't got it!
This is really interesting. I have a whippet and there's a championship show in June with a CC on offer for the whippets. Ours is only 6 months old just now so obviously I'm just looking to get some showing experience at the moment. It's just good to learn about these things, i'm enjoying it.
So have any of you won challenge certificates?

Lots of people on here have made their dogs up to Champions, when you go to some shows make a friend and have them explain the ins and outs of showing as there is a lot to take in, i.e. how to stand your dog, type of show sets, etc etc as its different for different breeds. We have been showing for nearly 3 years and are still asking lots of questions LOL
Hope you enjoy your new hobby and good luck with your pup.

Just to confuse there are different type of champions i.e. conformation champions (CC's), Junior Champions (Mainland Europe have these) and Working Champions. xx
Thanks Triona, we have been going to ringcraft classes for the past month or so and that's been great to learn the basics. She seems to enjoy it as well, it's just keeping her still that's the main problem at the moment! She's just young and likes to take everything in - watching every dog that passes, turning round to see the dog behind her etc...
She's good on the lead though so that's a start. I think we just need to keep practising her stand!

JG7702 don't try too hard to make her stand still, most judges like the puppies to be puppies and a bit of spirit is essential in a show dog - most important thing is that you and your dog enjoy your showing.

My pride and joy Henry won one at 14 months, he was my first dog and although I knew he had beaten a lot of dogs, I had no real idea back then just what an amazing feat he had accomplished, winning a CC and BOB from 250 Cavaliers! Sadly he never got the other 2, but he was a champion in my eyes. :-) Hope you and your baby have fun at the show!
