I haven't been in this site for a while as I have been caring for my beloved GSD Mishka as she has been going downhill. However this morning I had to make the dreaded decision to have her pts. For the last 3 weeks her back legs have been getting weaker and over the past 3 days she was collapsing every time she tried to walk. she couldn't hover for a wee so was sitting down to to pass water and ended sitting in the puddle which distressed her.It was the kindest thing for her although the hard part was that her brain was still so normal. When I got her lead to take her to the car this morning to drive to the vets she got so excited at the thought of going out, and yet she could only crawl on her stomach. My brain, my heart and my home are so empty right now that all I do is cry.

Run free my darling Mishka I have always, and will always love you with all my heart

Sending big hugs to you and your family.

Its a hard decision to make and I think you made the right decision.

Mishka Rest In Peace.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... "

Mishka was lucky to have someone who made the right decision, the ultimate act of love, but it hurts us like hell doesn't it?

Hoping the days ahead are filled with memories of happier times.
Hugs, so many of us on here know how hard it is to do the right thing.

I am so sorry.  Run free Mishka.

I had to make the same decision 2 weeks ago and for the same reasons.  I know how you are feeling.

Many thanks to you all for the comfort and the knowledge that you know exactly what it feels like, so your thoughts are worth so much more.
I suppose I am lucky as I nearly lost her 6 months ago, but with medication and a good vet I had another 6 months of her wonderful company.
People that don't have dogs don't go through the agony of losing a best friend, but just think of all the many years of happiness and joy they miss out on.
Each day that passes is a little easier to get through than the last even though the heartbreak and loneliness will take a very long time to fade, I have 2 other little dogs pining for her so I must try and give them the love and support they need at this time.

Many thanks once again
Sue

I'm so sorry for your loss.
You're right, people withouth dogs do not know what a terrible loss it is to loose one, they are very much family members and leave a huge, painfull gaping hole in our hearts when they go :(

Having to make that decision to PTS is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, even when in your head you know it is the right thing to do and the very last good thing you can do for your beloved friend, it still doesn't make it easy :(

I had my oldie, Rocky, PTS over 2 years ago. Buster was only a year old and he was rather lost at first without his best friend to cuddle up with and pester, I felt so sad for Buster as there is no way of explaining to them :(

Rest in peace Mishka.

Oh i'm so very sorry to hear about Mishka.. What a lovely name btw :-)

It is so very hard to make the right decision, but for her it was the right one. Give those other doggies in your home a huge hug and a walk out in the lovely sun, they will get you through this. I know when we lost Bentley if I didn't have another dog at the time I would of crumbled into a huge mess - I cried for many days and some times a tear flows when I look at his picture - He was a dog in a million. Owning one dog is never enough and in times like these it brings home what it means to be owned by them..

Do what you need to to cope and get through this, we are all here and i'm sure your family and friends are if you need to lean or cry on them for a while..xxx

So sorry to hear this sue. Sending you some great big (((hugs))). Mishka sounded so well loved, please take comfort in knowing you did right by her.

I said goodbye to my lad recently and the pain is still raw, I know what you mean about the home feeling empty too.

Sorry to hear about Mishka. It's the hardest decision anyone who owns a pet has to make.

I'm so sorry for you , I know how it feels I lost my special boy a week past tuesday , with similar symtoms. I am trying to remember the good times we had but it is so so raw. What we need to remember is that we have given them so much love and we had to let them go with dignity.
I believe my boy will be waiting for me , which gives me comfort , and I have explained to my son that his Grandma is caring for him in heaven , he said "well what's Dan had for tea tonight then? was it fish or crabsticks because she'll be giving him his favorite and heaven is mean't to be good right?" "and he'll be with my goldfish aswell!!" Poor grandma has her work cut out up there caring for our animals.

Im so sorry Sue.  My only complaint about our beloved hounds is that their time with us is too short.   Almost four years now since I lost my beloved GR, Winston aged 15, with a similar problem.   Bright as a button still he was but unfortunately his legs werent very good..
You are in my thoughts - I hope that it wont take too long for the sweet memories she left behind, to bring a smile to your face again.
