im wondering if theres anything i can give my boy to help him gain some weight. I ve had 3 bitches in season about a month ago and he lost some weight as he was pineing for the girls. Hes started eating again but hes still quite thin as his ribs and spine are quite promenant. ive tried giving him pasta, can anyone suggest anything.

Hi Diane , i give my pup tripe mixed in with his dry food, and that seems to be putting the weight on him nicely :) x
thanks for that, id be a bit wary of using tripe as i have a breed that suffer with tear staining and think it may bring his eyes to stain.

aww ok , i would try all carbohydrates then , like potatoes ,white pasta, white rice, and bread like toast and crumpets and potatoe cakes. I feed mine his dry with tripe , then anything else thats going at tea time haha like the odd slice of pizza and roast potatoes and left over chips, he like stews aswell with veg and stuff in and dumplings hahaha hes spoilt lol x

My young flatcoat was slow to gain weight and I was advised to give him toast for supper. It worked a treat :)

Firstly, worm him then I'd go with the toast or bread and butter for breakfast and bedtime snack.
Not a miracle but it creeps up fairly quickly and dogs enjoy a 'special' treat so no problem with getting the extra into him.

what about breast of lamb--that's quite fatty, mine love it when they get the chance but with Jack Sprat, an in betweener and a hefty noodle it's a bit tricky making sure they get no more than they should :)
yea ive wormed him today. I did buy some tripe and rice food at pet store today, i gave it with some pasta. ill try some toast tonight. Ive been told to feed him at night as they will gain the weight while they sleep as they are not working it off. Thanks for all your suggeations.xx
sorry forgot to ask do you use fresh tripe or the pet shop tin tripe.

I have no idea but would imagine that the salt content would be quite high and so not brilliant for your dog if fed in any great quantity?
