Hi does anybody know where i can get a good fitting dog guard for my T reg Vauxhall Vectra. I have the latest one from Halfords but does not seem to fit the car very well. Everytime my 2 dogs (GSD's) start moving around too much it collapses. Please help.
Fiona.
The guards you can buy from Halfords and other such places
I think the tubular and the narrow mesh type are useless, not
worth wasting your money on.
If you can sometimes you can buy guards 2nd hand from places
such as free-ads etc (Look in both pet accessories & car accessories)
or the dog papers Dog World and Our Dogs.
New Guards Cages can be bought from
Barjo on 01189-890240 Or Guardsman (Athag Ltd) on 01827-713040
or MMG 01406-426047
Or car-cages by
Barnesbrook 01243-552330
Trystorme 01241-828528
I think Beacon Products and Haborn also do cages but can't find their numbers right now.
Even the Manufacturers do a stronger weldmesh type guard although they are probably quite expensive.
Kind Regards

Vauxhall's own mesh one is very tough and works well in mine. I have an Astra Estate which uses the same one. It has 2 fixing places depending whether you want to fix it behind the front seats or the back seats, and it quick and easy to change.

Hi all thanks for your help. I spoke to Vauxhall but they say that the Vauxhall dog guard is only now made for estates and would not fit my car!! I have found one that looks promising at a company that says all sorts for the car. It is quite expensive but looks quite good in the picture so will probably try that. They have said i can send it back if i am not satisfied. Thanks again. Fiona.

I had the same problem with a collapsing dog guard. If your car has headrests, try one of those elastic lines with a plastic hook on either end. (Don,t know what they are called) you can buy them in halfords. I attacted the clips to the dog guard and run the elastic around the headrests. It worked fine, at least if the guard is dislodged it can't fall on your dog. If you haven't got headrests there maybe somewhere else in the car you can attached them too.

I've got a home made dog guard that has never fallen down. It's attached by zip ties to something in the roof! Not explaining it very well but I have an astra estate and it has these plastic things that if you pull off, there is a hole underneath!!
My sister bought a dog guard from Ford. It was expensive but WELL worth it!

I've got a manufacturer's made guard in my Volvo and although not cheap it is well worth the money. It is on gas struts and just flips up under the roof when not in use, yet is sturdy enough to stop anything travelling to the front of the car in an accident, which is the main reason I have one fitted. Before i decked my car out with a ford dog guard a mmg tailgate and a lintran boot liner, i had a halfords universal dog guard, and i had headrests in my car i bought those little plastic ties that you can get from halfords and tied the dog guard onto the head rests it was very secure, until i aquired a cocker spaniel who could get through it.... Hehe Diane, join the club, I've not yet found a dog guard that little Merlin can't wiggle his way through, leave him in the car for 5 mins and you find him sitting on the front seat when you get back. Ingrid

Take it back and explain the problem to them. I am sure they will get it sorted for you. If you don't get any luck then let me know and I will get my husband who works at Halfords head office to get somebody to conatct you to get it sorted. I doubt very much it will get to that stage but see how you get on.
I am also sure that they would be very interested in anybodies feedback on the products they are selling if any thing is not right as they are at the moment very keen in promoting the animals on the move range.

Hi Lucy,
I too have one of these guards which i payed £30.00 for. :( From Halfords. Total waste of time, and money, it's in the shed now, everytime my dog lent on it, it fell down.:(
But i dont have the reciept :(

I would still take it back even if you didn't have the receipt. I am sure if you haven't used it that much, because it didn't work then they will be able to see the problem. I often take things back with out receipts to shops and have had no trouble on getting a replacement or my money back. Try it and see what happens.
Can anybody let me have the excat make and model and I will find out if they are aware of the problem at all.
Thanks
Lucy
