Wondered if anyone has this as part of their whelping kit?

Seen a kit on ebay and its included, so i just wondered if its necessary.

I have always bought a bottle for each litter but have never needed to use it thank goodness.

I had it in the fridge for my first litter and it wasn't needed. I gave it to a friend who had a litter just after mine, but her bitch had a c-section so it was wasted.

For my second litter, I purchased some nutridrops which although not for the same purpose, was used, and I found it absolutley great for giving weaker pups a little boost.

I also heard that Dopram V was discontinued for a while. Is it available again?

Dopram V is marvellous stuff. I would never whelp a litter without it. I needed it with my last lot, where a couple were really slow to breathe and I thought I would lose them.

A while back it had been taken off sale, not sure if it's re-available yet.

I googled it and it is available online, its not cheap tho! Ive no idea why it was taken off sale though/

ETA, it looks like its perscription only.

The sites I've looked at are still saying unavailable, the only stuff that is and POM  is the injection version.

I would never be without it.  I don't understand why people talk about it being expensive.  What price a saved puppy?

Many times I have thrown it, never having opened it.  But when I have needed it, I have been soooo thankful.

However, it's fair to say that I have never messed about with kits.  I prefer to choose my own obstetric gel etc. etc.

I always buy what I need for each litter afresh.

Money isnt an issue, I was just commenting on the first price I saw which was £46. I thought that was quite expensive.

Obviously that woud come with experience. I felt buying a kit would make sure I hadnt forgot anything.

wow £46! ive never paid more then £20 :-O

i think the OP has found the injection not the drops.

Had a call from Manor pharmacy today for availabillity of Dopram-V.  Its no longer available ever according to Vetmedic, must be where they get it from.  No reason why.  there's nothing that they can give without a prescription but you can get an alternative from the vet??

She said the manufacturer could have gone into liquidation.

I made my dog an appt for an x-ray today and while on the phone I asked about getting some dopram and the receptionist said they dont like giving it to people who are not experienced in using it. Which I am obviously not. I'll speak with my vet when I go about any alternatives which would be available for me.

Wow!  We all have to start somewhere.  Do you have a mentor that could attend at the whelping?

Just thinking that if they only sell to an experienced person, perhaps a mentor could buy some for you, and be there to administer it if required.

Very true, that we do have st all start somewhere.

My bitches breeder is my mentor. She has kindly offered to get dopram for me if its still available. If not then my vet will advise me of any alternatives.
