has any one tried royal canin neutered food,
i have a 5 year old spitz neutered, he has a walk every morning half an hour and i mean a walk not a potter
he then has a run in the afternoon say 30-45 mins chasing the collie and the ball, and then
he does agility training most days and then competes at the weekends,
he has put on weight he gets no treats through the day, and we where feeding him once a day but he was hungry
and started to eat the other dogs poo, so we took his normal once a day food upto twice a day so split his morning meal into two, i need him to loose 3-4 lb in weight, and even with all the exercise and even twice a week running alongside the bike  he is still loosing nothing,
he is fed raw chicken, rabbit, and some kibble carrotts any type of veg really he likes but then i saw on a websit rc neutered food and thought should i give him that but wanted to know if anyone feeds their dog it and what do they think about it.

I have found with my Spitz (Elkhounds) that feeding Burns for 6 months will remove the fat without loosing condition. Mind you mine are not neutered.

Which Burns did you use Nova? Is it it the lamb and brown rice?

To the OP my collies are much the same, both gets lots of exercise and very little food but I do have to watch them constantly as they put weight on very easily, both are neutered. My 5 year old collie has recently started eating poo, I think because she is hungry :-(  Mine have tried almost every light diet out there. They got really fat on raw, they probably look best  on beta light with wainrights light wet food added, like you I often give them carrots, or cucumber to pad their meal out. They do get two large raw bones a week, which may be fattening but are essential for teeth and recreation I think.

Yes, as it happens that is what I used (just gone back to AG) but find most of the Burns have that effect, the food and composition seem to keep the hounds fit and active but they do loose weight.

No, I've not tried it but why not replace the carrot (high sugar content) with other veg (cauli, cabbage) I cook it (cheap frozen from supermarket) and add to dinner.  Carbohydrates - if there is rice or other carbs in the kibble this will add to weight problem.

Have you had his thyroid checked?  If he's always this active and the weight is fairly recent then I'd be checking that, especially if you're really struggling to get it off him.  Dogs don't always display other symptoms such as hair loss etc (and some show next to nothing or indeed nothing at all - I know of one dobe who tipped his owner off by starting to just clip the poles on the agility jumps, nothing else changed).

Other things that have worked for me have been mixing in a little bran (if he's not wheat intolerant, of course) to bulk it out, or soaking the kibble overnight/through the day so it swells and fills him up.

The one thing that's worked the best for my boy (who has been overweight/up to obese for the last 4 years following an injury) is feeding Skinners salmon and rice - it's the only food that's gotten weight off him, although even with that I have to be careful.  not saying it'd work for your fellow, just that a change of food might be helpful :-)

I now have my 3 yr old entire girl & 6 year old neutered boy GS Mittel on Royal Canin Sensible and they both have lost their extra weight, and they love it, they have a cup a day which is about 1/3 less than what is recommended for their weight.

I would be careful of adding bran, it has a tendency to prevent the absorption of vitamins

I used Burns High Oats with my neutered flatcoat and it worked a treat

Our dachshund in his 'statesman' years was on a permanent diet of minced beef, cooked and all the fat skimmed off, made up with oats and steamed carrots and green beans. What a hardship for him :)
