Hi to everyone on Champdogs

My name is Gemma, and im student at Salford University, currently looking for related bitches and puppies in the Manchester and Lancs Area for my dissertation project.

Description:

I need a breeder that has a bitch that has had puppies at least 3 months ago and are now fully seperated (the pup can be 3 months to 2 years of age). I need one puppy from that bitches litter.
The bitch will be required to sleep with a blanket for 3 nights (paid, given and collected by myself) to get a good scent.
And i will also need the breeder to get in contact with a puppy owner that will be willing to let their puppy take part in an pratical at Salford University, which will require them to bring the dog in for around 10 mins to see if they recognise the blanket with their mothers scent compared to a non-kin dogs blanket.

I hope this makes sense!!! Its very long winded i know!  LOL

but all dogs will get a bag of treats as a thank you

But please if anyone can help id be grateful. I need around 30 bitches and 30 puppies

Thanks

Gemma

Can't help but I wish you luck with your project and this will bump your post back to the top :-)

Wishing you luck too - I took part in a study with my dog when he was a puppy, to assist a student at exeter Uni with her behaviour degree final, it felt really good to help and I'm glad to say she passed and got a good grade too.

I could ask one of my puppy owners if they are up for it?  He is now 15 months is that to old?
- By Gem_salford_uni Date 17.02.11 11:32 UTC
@Perrodeagua....aslong the puppy and mother have been seperated, and their under 2 years of age...then that puppy would be perfect :)
which area do you live in? and the puppy owner?

:)

We both live in South Manchester and he hasn't seen his mum since he left at 8 weeks.  He sees his sister now and again but his sister lives with me and his mother with my parents.  I will ask them if they mind, having a feeling that they wouldn't.

I would be so grateful if you both could be involved....the only thing i need from the breeder is for her bitch (the puppies mum) to sleep with a blanket i provide, take and collect for 3 nights.
The puppy plays a bigger part (realistically). I dont have a set date for either of the two weeks but it should be around the 2nd week of March and then the 3rd (but if people cant make into the university on two commencing weeks, then the 2nd week if its ok i can come to your house and do the experiment there :)

Only another 27ish people to find now!!! :)

I have a 12 month old pup that hasn't had contact with it mum since it left at 8 weeks old but she has had contact with the breeder (who lives with the mum) We are in Liverpool if that would be any good?

Hi Paula Dal

No thats totally fine...to be honest i was being very strict with the type of subjects i needed...but unfortunatly im finding it hard to get breeders on board with the project (hence being on this forum, meeting all you nice willing people!!) Does the breeder live in Liverpool? and are you ok to come to salford university for at least one of the 'experiment' days?!

Thanks :)

breeder doesn't live in Liverpool but I see her regulary at Dogs shows. not sure if that would be a problem? I'm seeing her on saturday and again at crufts on 10th March (I could give her the blanket?), then again on 13th March, (she could give me it back in a sealed bag?) and then I could possibly bring it and dog to you?

Ok...shouldnt be a massive problem, i may have to do the experiments maybe on a later date for your puppy (which i will discuss with my project leader tomorrow) to be honest i just need people and numbers!

Well im picking up the blankets and bags tomorrow...so i could possibly drop off the blanket tomorrow evening if thats ok with you? Can you pm on here? if so send me your address.

and then i can pick it up on the 10th/11th etc....

You are being very helpful which is great...so thank you :)
