Hi I am just new to this. My 18 month s.b.t was attacked by anothe rdog the other day at the park. He was on the lead and the other dog was running about freely. My dog just went into total submissive. He is very timid with other dogs but can be quite assertive with me. whats the matter with him?

he is undersocialised by the sound of it

Hi Lizzy, my staff used to do this as a young bitch when other dogs went for her but she had a radical personality tranformation when she hit 2 and would now bite first read body language later if dogs come at her as has been that way for the last 6 years.

I am no behaviourist but if you can give your dog some positive experiences in the same park with other dogs you might be able to prevent him having issues in that park.  I don't know enough about you to comment on the socialisation but can only comment on my own situation and my observation of other staffs.  I have tended to find that regardless of the socialisation they tend to be friendly, cuddly wusses when they are young but can develop a bit of an attitude once they hit maturity.

Good luck.
