Hi All,

Can anybody recommend a company that makes a large whelping box? To clarify, 4' x 4' would not be big enough. I am looking for something roughly 6'x4' and wondered if anybody has practical experience of same.
I am more or less resigned to making one but just thought I would ask - as I hate DIY :-)

Try ebay?  You can often buy whelping boxes that other people have made for there litters on there.  I know your looking for a very big one but I did see a great dane one up there once so all things are possible.  There is also someone who seems to hand make DIY wooden ones and sell them (i'm guessing thats what they do as they always have loads up there) maybe they could make one to size for you. 

Failing that hiring a handy man for the hour or so it would take would probably be cheaper than buying a plastic one

I had a chap make me one a couple of years ago - took him a lot longer than an hour and cost me a LOT of money but it has been well worth it as it is well made and the size I wanted with adjustable opening heights as pups grow.

How about a croft freedom playpen with extra sides,Ive found them the best and then line then with rigid plastic lining (from garden shops for insulating greenhouses)
its clear or opaque really cheap and can be cut with a stanley knife nd drilled to fix to sides with cable ties.
You can then use the playpen with the extra sides for years to come.

I would go for a Croft Freedom Pen too. I actually have a linkabord whelping box, but used a Freedom Pen for this last litter to put the pups in when "cleaning" and also as they got too tall for the linkabord and I have to say if I didn't already have the linkabord I would use the Croft Freedom Pen as a whelping box (with some slight changes). I also have extra panels to make the pen bigger as the pups grow.

we made ours 6' x 4'6".......nothing off the shelf would stand the rigours of my breed! plus much better to make your own so you can have it exactly how you want it, no compromises.

Thanks all, as I mentioned at the top I think it may be a case of making it. I am quite good at DIY just not very keen- although even less keen on paying someone else to do what I can do myself! :-)
