Topic Dog Boards / General / Is it the season for?
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 07.02.11 20:17 UTC
Is it me or has there been a glut of new posters who seem intent on being antagonistic, awkward and generally stirring things to either elicit information or provoke reaction. I think it's a bit early for April Fools but they all seem to have appeared.

I totally respect others right to their opinion BUT these are immediately defensive and down right rude. I love my dogs, would do anything to help my breed and other dogs which includes health testing, research etc etc, but what do these people think we do, sit and think about ways to make money- I don't think so.
Sorry, rant over but it makes my blood boil when I know that the majority on here are decent people who put their dogs first and foremost be they pets ( aren't they all?) show dogs  or loyal companions.
- By Nikita [ir] Date 07.02.11 20:26 UTC
Seems normal to me - there are always some that come and go, usually at least one e-collar fan.  Seems like they drift in on the tide and eventually they realise they aren't going to convince anyone, then drift away again.
- By Boody Date 07.02.11 20:30 UTC
Does seem a awful lot of it lately, i did wonder if it was the same person making multiple accounts.

i thought this as well, we used to call them trolls i believe. i was particularly annoyed by one person who seemed to hijack the entire thread for a whole day with an answer for everyone
i think you know who i mean
- By scooby_doo [gb] Date 07.02.11 20:40 UTC
Im new on here (hope I havnt annoyed anyone :( )

x
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 07.02.11 20:57 UTC
Scooby Doo, absolutely NOT you, post away with gay abandon :) I'm not naming names but if you read through the threads you will spot the instant experts who spout facts and figures which are usually incorrect and then turn extremely rude when this is pointed out to them :)
- By scooby_doo [gb] Date 07.02.11 21:06 UTC
Ahhhh ok then lol you know what its like being new lol... I can be quite appinionated sometimes lol..

Yes I have read through and can pick out a couple! Must say though there do seem to be alot of very help full friendly people on here who I could learn alot from the true dog lovers not the know it alls !! x
- By Norman [gb] Date 07.02.11 21:09 UTC
True dog lovers know there is never an end to learning and improving
- By Nova Date 07.02.11 21:11 UTC
Too true these sort of posts are usually made during school holidays, they do not seem to be posted by adults unless those adults are set on causing trouble. It amounts to a sort of cyber graffiti and the best thing would be to ignore once it is clear the poster is either after upsetting us or causing a disturbance. There are of course adults that do the same thing although I can't think why, either for self gratification or perhaps they have nothing else to do, suppose we should feel compassion but I have to admit to reaching for the ignore button as I value my lowered blood pressure
- By Nova Date 07.02.11 21:14 UTC
I do admit to having put someone on the ignore list I become so intrigued by the answers I have to click to see what they are replying to. Nosy or what!!
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 07.02.11 21:17 UTC
Yes Nova I should reach for the button too but I am also so curious  as to what these people say to try and justify their opinions/attitudes. I also hope that by some slim chance we might learn something from them as to how to try and educate people better. I totally agree with the poster who said that we should keep learning, our dogs are too precious for us not to keep searching for answers :)
- By Boody Date 07.02.11 21:17 UTC

same lol, its why the ignore button fails so much for me :-p
- By furriefriends Date 08.02.11 09:05 UTC
O dear now I am feeling guilty hope I amnot one of them I assure you its notintended :(
Must be dumb or something havent really noticed anything well apart from the answer to everthing appears to be an e collar !
You are right we should never stop learning
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 08.02.11 09:48 UTC
No no furriefriends, blimey wish I hadn't said anything as it's none of the people I am referring to who keep saying "is it me?" I suppose those who have just joined and are creating mischief have too thick skins to contemplate that it could possible be them!!!! :( or they just don't care!
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 08.02.11 11:25 UTC
lol i get a bit of a complex too

some of the people really drive me insane and are clearly only posting to get more stars ......
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 08.02.11 11:26 UTC

> some of the people really drive me insane and are clearly only posting to get more stars ......

again incidently - no one who has posted in this thread is included in the above :)
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 08.02.11 11:36 UTC
Thank goodness Claire as I started it and now I am getting a complex LOL!!! :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 08.02.11 12:09 UTC
Have to say it has stopped me posting on here!
- By Crichton [ie] Date 08.02.11 12:53 UTC
For me, there are 2 different types of poster who upset/annoy.

There are those who speak the truth although a bit bluntly but do so because of their love of dogs and to try and stop others from breeding without a good knowledge and understanding (hope that makes sense :) ).  These posters sometimes upset people but it is not meant or done with any malice.

Then there are those whose sole purpose seems to be to upset/annoy/enrage everyone else on the forum.  Where possible they are best ignored, they really need to get a hobby lol
- By furriefriends Date 08.02.11 13:03 UTC
thanks sawwheatie phew ! gosh we are abunch arnt we lol Maybe you are right about the thick skinned bit
- By Katien [gb] Date 08.02.11 13:09 UTC
I suspect I may be one of the posters referred to on this thread. I don't try to provoke anyone but the whole situation with dog welfare upsets me - I don't really care (trying to be honest) who gets upset in the process I just want to see some results for the DOGS.
Having said that, the reason why I took time choosing the breeder of my dogs and had any inkling of what to look for was from looking on THIS forum. So please don't think that the stuff that gets said on here goes un-noticed.

I definitely come into the first category :D    I will happily give out information - I generally ask questions first though, to ensure that we know the entire picture.   But I'm not going to be soft on people who are blatently and unrepentantly doing the same thing time after time, and I do "tell it as it is".

But on the whole, I don't bite :D :D
- By WestCoast Date 08.02.11 15:02 UTC
I'm in your club too Loki's Mum!
I'm very happy to help those who want to learn and do it right, but backyard breeders - they won't get any help from me! :(
- By tooolz Date 08.02.11 15:12 UTC
I have to say Im getting more sparing with advice and help.

As time has gone on Im getting more and more annoyed with this concept of 'Breeding By Committee'.

Whereby the poster..without any advanced study, research, preparation etc launches into

.............................. " My bitch is pregnant and I want you lot to drop what your doing and all tell me exactly how to produce a litter".... " I dont want to wait, dont want to read, dont want to learn just tell me what I need to know"

Then to my utter amazement every single nuance of a lifetimes experience in producing pedigree dogs is spelt out to them day by day. Spoon fed you could say.
AND heaven help you if you dare say anything they may not want to hear....
- By WestCoast Date 08.02.11 15:17 UTC
That's 3 in our club then! :)
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 08.02.11 15:23 UTC
Think there maybe a few more in this particular club. :-)
However sometimes people do listern learn and improve even if its the ones that don't get remembered.

- By tooolz Date 08.02.11 16:34 UTC
Goodness ! I thought I was terse and blunt....... but it can make you that way.........life .. :-)
- By Nova Date 08.02.11 17:20 UTC
I suspect I may be one of the posters referred to on this thread.

No as far as I am concerned, have just looked on my ignore list and your not there.

Think the good people on this forum do not mind answering anything for anyone, it is when you get the feeling that either they are taking the mickey or turn round and slag you for giving the advice they have asked for.
- By Norman [gb] Date 08.02.11 18:52 UTC
Hope I'm not one who has annoyed - can someone please tell me how I can hit the ignore button?
- By Nova Date 08.02.11 19:28 UTC
No, not you, but I bet I am on a few ignore lists.

To do it click on the name of the person who's opinions you do not wish to read and when you get to their profile click the ignore button and then add to list. You can still read what they say by clicking on the hidden that will appear in the thread. Now don't you go and do it to me :-)
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 08.02.11 20:09 UTC
No, no no to all the people who have said " is it me?" As I said before the ones who have got on my nerves are the ones who come on and just want to pick a fight in a paper bag, as I said previously they are the type who will have no idea ( or care) what they are doing!!!! I appreciate we all have different tolerance levels and I think mine is quite low at the moment., I found myself commenting to my dogs as we walked along passing messy gardens  "that no one has any pride in their property anymore" Maybe I am more of a female Victor Meldrew than I thought :)
I'm all for people entering debate, that's how we learn and I want to join the club mentioned earlier :)
- By Boody Date 08.02.11 20:14 UTC

Note how you havnt had reams of text telling you why your wrong to be annoyed :-)

My gripe is how were only allowed to have opinions aslong as they agree with them, if you dare differ you get TOLD you are wrong and there can not possibly be any merit in what you say,,, rrrrraaawwwwwrrrrrrr it annoys me!!
- By MsTemeraire Date 08.02.11 20:41 UTC

> No, no no to all the people who have said " is it me?"

Now we're all paranoid!! LOL
(Of course if nobody replies to this.... I've got my answer, hehehe!).
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 08.02.11 20:53 UTC
for what its worth.........everyone who has replied to this thread ...........are the kind of people that i wait with anticipation (in a good way) to see what you have to say on people threads/posts/dilemas :) x
- By Heidi2006 Date 08.02.11 22:24 UTC
I'm paranoid too, but doubt my post are awaited!
I've got to admit that I tend to 'jump' in on others posts, by reading interesting posts and then, at times, put in my own questions on relevant, to me, posts, rather than starting up my own enquiry.  Thanks for those who have helped btw.
I do also put in my two pennyworth on existing posts occasionally.
I like to be told if/when/how/why I'm talking rubbish - as gently as possible though!
- By Boody Date 08.02.11 22:48 UTC
I like to be told if/when/how/why I'm talking rubbish - as gently as possible though

But that's exactly it, there is so many nice ways to disagree and get a point across, ramming it down peoples throat just makes them not listen and easily alienates people.

P.s it's not you either lol

I did wonder if there is an element of forum sniping going on...

Since the recent JH blog was published, quoting Champdogs as her source, there does seem to have been an increase in targetted posts.  New members seem to hit all the hot spots in their first post and then spend a day or two relishing the response.  After that they fade away and no more is heard from them

Almost as if they have been challenged to join...

Wouldn't have been the first time either......

No I think so too. The Cav thread for example... Perhaps someone dare not show thier face so maybe she is getting her little elves busy? They have too much knowledge and stats at their finger tips to be ordinary pet dog owners.
Pehaps it is our notoriety having appeared on an internet blog and being quoted in Dog World too?

I still feal very much a newcomer, hope I'm not on too many ignor lists and would just like to say blunt or not thanks for all the good advice.
- By MsTemeraire Date 12.02.11 21:28 UTC
Well you're not on mine, Lacy! :)
- By tooolz Date 12.02.11 21:46 UTC

I think this came about out of frustration. Dog World removed the vitriolic, breeder bashing comments along with all the others.

So much to say and nowhere to go :(

i enjoy reading all the diffrent topics on here and have learned some interesting things as well
