Im sorry if I upset or offend anyone with another dumb question but Im really rather confused if there is a difference between a reserve and 4th, is it the same thing?

I have tried to look online but all I can find is definitions of a reserve CC which I know is not the same.

Its not that it means so much to me that we got a reserve, Im so proud of my boy getting placed at all but the more I try to find out the more confused Im getting lol

There are 3 places awarded in each class and then a reserve in case one of the dogs that has won one of the first three places is disqualified - at some shows a VHC (Very Highly Commended) is also awarded and at Crufts in the Open class a HC (Highly Commended) and C (Commended) but you rarely come across them except at Crufts.

When it comes to Best in Show or Best of Breed then there is only one award given and a reserve is declared in case the winner is disqualified. So the Reserve actually means the dog standing immediately below the dog or dogs that have been given the award be that 1st, 2nd & 3rd in a class or Best in Show, best in Group or the CC winner.

As said yes reserve is the same as 4th and VHC (Very Highly Commended) is the same as 5th - to confuse you more there is also a HC (Highly Commended) - 6th :)

LOL I'm always doing that - I also have a habit of going off to do something, mid compose so to speak, then coming back to post it only to find the whole thread has been withdrawn.
