Those of you that have shown breeds on the Imp Reg, I know you cannot go into the group or BIS, but can you enter Puppy stakes, brace classes etc?

Sorry no, just the import Register classes.

Thanks, thats what i thought, on the bright side it'll save money on entry fees ;-)

As nova sais we are only allowed to enter import register class's only and if you win Best Import you may be lucky and be allowed to do a lap of honour prior to your group judging .

For what it is worth I think the Imp Reg is badly treated and we always give them a special low entry fee as they are only able to take part in a very small section of the show. I suppose it is because half the judges doing stakes and AV classes would not be familiar with the breeds that they are so restricted but it may well not be as logical as that. Thing is they do not have a proper standard only an interim one but then there was a time not long ago when well all had interim standards and the judges seemed to manage..

I would say, look to what the cat fancy [GCCF] has as protocols for new/imported breeds. It may not have been of great importance years ago as before the Balai and Pet Passports, very few new breeds could come over.

A fancy I was very involved with about 10 years ago saw a huge increase in the new varieties part of their shows once the Balai directive came in. It meant that for the first time it was possible to bring in new varieties from Europe and it increased the list of unstandardised varieties tenfold, almost overnight. It became the largest entry on the schedule at some shows.

There was only this one class for 'new, unstandardised' at shows and it was done right at the very end after everything else had been judged, almost a throwaway class in fact - regrettably some judges didn't take it serously and it became a bit of a joke.

Exhibitors complained... and it was agreed the Unstandardised and New Varieties were judged first of all... since they could not compete in any challenges or for BIS, it allowed the exhibitors to leave earlier if they wished rather than being forced to stay to the very end, waiting for their one class. It also gave them some standing and the class was no longer seen as second-rate, and judges were restrained on condemning 'new varieties' just on personal opinion.

Because our Import Register classes are usually judged by the AV judge they do take place just before the start of the AV classes that means the late morning. There have been times when one of the breeds in Imp Reg have had considerably more entries than some of the breeds but I am not sure this (forcing) the breed onto the main register is such a good idea as often once they are it seems to be the time the problems start where as those who take their time seem to fair better as a breed.

Breeds that are 'rushed' not only have a problem with a restricted gene pool but they also seem to have problems with personality clashes and those who have put in much of the work to establish the breed find themselves being shouldered out and we get a situation where although it is a small number of people involved they are split into factions - not the best way forward for breeds of small numbers.

I agree nova we do get a rough deal at shows we are late in the ring often dont get a best import card .
At Manchester we got in the ring at 6pm and felt totally abaondon by the show in one of the back halls the judge did a fantastic job and she still had rare breeds to go after us .
We do pay a reduced entry fee but the cost is the same as Avnsc and any breed that does not have cc that day. and as i keep saying to show sec it still cost us the same to get there as it does other exhibitors .
We cant show at crufts or as you say go in the groups. I do feel it is very short sighted of the kc not to let us show case the import breeds at crufts.
One of the reasons I ahve heard as to why we cant show at crufts or showcase the breeds is that they dont have room lol.
Maybe if it went back to a dog show instead of a trade stand show there would be room for us .

Think the room suggestion is daft, it is more to do with having a standard but they could be sorted particularly for FCI recognised breeds. My club only runs Group Open shows by where as the breed entry fee is 5.50 the Imp Reg is £3.50 would like to make is less in the hope of encouraging but we supply prize cards to 5th place, Rosettes to 3rd a 3 principal rosettes for BOB, RBOB and BP or rather Best Import, Best Reserve Import an Best Import Puppy so there is a limit to how low we can go.

Even if they can't go into Group or BIS it would be nice if the could do the AV and Stakes classes but I would think the KC have a very good reason on hand to explain why they can not.

She did do a fab job, we finished a little short of 7pm!

Don`t you just feel like the forgotten few sometimes :)

Nope and in reality you can't even go into matches at your local club!!  That's why our Club some time ago came out of being run via KC rules as it seemed a shame that 50% of the Club's membership couldn't show at their match nights.

Yes we were there with the tibbys for rare breeds , does make you feel like you are not part of the show when they always put you last, Working & Pastoral last year took our breed judge away just as we were about to enter the ring as one of the other judges had not turned up, a few went to complain and were told that CC breeds are much more important that non CC or imports, they will have to wait , we got in the ring a at 6 pm after a 4 hour wait , missed the group and then told by a commitee member thats just tough!

Quite happy to take entry money though!!
