Hi
I just want to give some hope to all those people who think their dog may be passed it for champion status.
My old boy was 7 last may, he had 1 CC and 2 RCC's under his belt but with all the good youngsters coming through I'd thought for a long time we were just there to make up the numbers.
Darlington last year he won the CC out of veteran, Driffield last year he won the CC out of open. Club champ show in October another CC and BOB BV and BIS, and then at Manchester his 5th CC .
I am sooo very proud of him. He looks and moves better than some of the youngsters in the breed. And most importantly , he still enjoys all of the attention.

Well done -and I am SO with you! My oldest girl got made up to Champion at Crufts last year, a month off being ten. I'm taking her to the world show in Paris this year, aged 11 -she looks better than ever so I see no reason not to. :) However you do come across SOME judges that make stupid statements like "I don't believe any dog aged over 6 should be shown!" :(

Yep, 2 Sh.Ch. girls I have bred have won CC's as Veterans.   All for slow maturing & longevity.

Brilliant! It does depend on the breed. In my breed the 2 dogs which were vieing for record holder were still winning CC's at 7 and 8 years old, but that's fairly unusual - most are made up by 2, perhaps compete for another year or two, then the next youngster gets brought out. Henry was BVIS and got shortlisted for Best Dog at a club show once and that was pretty good going!

One of mine won her third CC at eight - she had been stuck on 2 CCs and 13 RCCs. I thought she'd never get her title but we got there in the end and she won another RCC a couple of weeks later :)

One of my other bitches won the CC and BOB at Crufts at nearly nine, a club BIS at ten, and then the bitch CC at Crufts at nearly 11 :)

Another one, a dog this time, won a CC at nearly 8 :)

I take great pride in having oldies in such good condition :) :)

Well done all of you. This thread gives me hope as we  get CC's this year. Its nice to think that the older dogs that have been winning might not get overlooked due to age.

Well done.  My first Spanish was beating all import registers at the age of 11, even dogs who later on in life became the top dogs of their breeds, so many breeds can and do go on to win at ripe old ages.

I would be very proud to own a dog that was so well conditioned later in life and also still enjoying the day out at the same time. Only got 4 years to wait for my girl to hit her veteran years though.

not uncommon in our breed.  In 2009 I made up my youngster at only 14 months, but two other bitches were made up as veterans or very nearly so.

The oldest when made up in recent times was a bitch of 10, but then Veterans regularly win top awards,a dn my Lexi who has just entered Veteran is doing better now then when she was 3 - 6 years old (maternal duties might have impacted)..
