I was wondering which breeds we like and why? I have schnauzers and was thinking maybe next time to try a scottie? My standards are too big and very noisy (in hindsite obv) so i dont know if i would have them again. would anyone consider changing breeds?
I love Poms, but OH dislikes all small dogs I also love Whippets, but he doesn't like skinny fragile looking ones either so we stick with the BCs that we both like. At least I have managed to convert him to coloured ones lol

Not changing breeds, but would like to add a breed when the time is right. As it stands the time is NOT right for me, but i'd like to have a Rottie at some point, but have many years of dog owning ahead of me to do that.
Also would like when I have more time(Is that going to be retirement?) have a Samoyed, they are brilliant dogs, but its the extensive grooming required which i'm not going to devote my time to until I don't have to work ever ever again.. But this too would be an addition..
I love my breed and the thought of never owning one would be sheer hell!!

I would never be without a Japanese Spitz, but i love Paps and Poms but as the kids were small i didn't want to risk them getting injured.
As a whole i love most with fluffy coats but i do have a fondness for Schnauzers, they look full of character. Non fluffy dogwise i love RR we've had 3 in the family and alll immaculate tempraments and very sociable, oh and last but not least ESS but will never have another after we lost Japser he is irriplacable.

I wouldnt have another Setter, I currently have two Irish boys aged 6.5 and 7, I love them to bits but their coats are hard work, especially living out in the sticks they are constantly knotted up from the undergrowth and take ages to dry out if they get wet. They are also real bird dogs and cant be trusted in pheasant breeding areas. I compete in agility, cani-cross and bikejoring and although the Setter boys are good at all of them they arent quick enough for agility and dont have the stamina for the bikejoring. Last year I took on a rescue Australian Kelpie and he really is the dog of my dreams ! Short coated, mud just falls off of him. He is obedient, loves agility (and is very quick) and he hammers round the bikejor course and finishes like he has just done the warm up

Not only that but he is great with people and other dogs and also he and my toddler are best friends :)

> would anyone consider changing breeds
The pastoral breeds are my first love. I only have 3 now. 2 Bearded Collies and 1 Border Collie (the love of my life.) Some years back I was about to have my first Aussie, but hand surgery going wrong put paid to that, which I much regretted.
I have kept toys since the 70's and I am without a Toy Poodle now for the first time in well over 30 years. I now have Yorkshire Terriers and Long Coat Chihuahuas, and have to say that I am not the only one that finds Pastorals and Toys are a good combination.
Although the Pastorals are my passion, I know that there will be no more after I lose my current 3. I wouldn't want to leave them for rehoming after I am gone, and have decided that if I had a pup now, I would worry that I might not outlive it.
When we were looking for a breed my husband set his heart on a bulldog but there was no way I would agree so we ended up with Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers ( 4!!) They are the love of my life, there is nothing about them I would change BUT as we are getting older ( hubby 13 yrs older than me) we have to be sensible about the amount we have and our ability to keep up with them. I will always have a Wheaten but may consider a french bulldog or an affenpinscher ( obviously after thorough research of the characteristics and health issues)
I think it's great that there are breeds for all people, some breeds I could never consider and for other people they are their life.

No can't remember what life was like pre Basset, and can't imagine the house being our home without them. They just have a certain 'quality' that I love, but I have been known when the pause/delay response time seems to have been switched to off, to threaten them with trade in for dachshunds.

cant ever imagine my house without a rottie or a dogue (not always 14 of course!!!), but if i do eventually get my way in a few years i would love a harlequin great dane to join our family. :)
>I think it's great that there are breeds for all people, some breeds I could never consider and for other people they are their life.
Exactly Sawheaties. I'm so glad that not everyone wants the same dog! I have to say it's one of the reason I despair when certain breeds become fashionable and people get them only for that reason. Much better to find a breed that
really suits.
I have Wirehaired Vizslas and find most of the breeds I like are in the gundog group BUT I have a soft spot for the Basset Fauve de Bretagne and think I'd like to make room for one of these before I die. I'll always accomodate a scruffy, bin raiding, terrier type mongrel too as these were the dogs of my childhood. In general I much prefer ears down, tail down, longer muzzles, and (as you can see) I'm rather drawn to wiry whiskers :)
I'm a mastiff girl!! Bulls, DDB, Neapolitans, CCs...large goofballs with short coats are my thing. The bigger the better. As lazy as sloths in the house but mine can go for hrs and hrs up on the moors with the horses and not miss a stride. They fit my lifestyle perfectly and are more than happy going for a quick blast in the wood next to the house for half an hour or me making a picnic and disappearing for the day up on the moors.

I have had Irish Setters, Border Collies, Belgian Shepherds and Lurchers over the years but have to say my Rottie boys are
by far my favourite. The only downside in owning them is other peoples perception of them.

The Border Collie is the only dog for me...always has been and always will be...
They enriched my childhood and have captured my heart and soul for my entire life
The blood that courses through their veins...the Spirit that drives them....the voices that still whisper to them about their heritage...I just find everything about them truly fascinating and captivating. I could spend endless hours just watching them on the field...an eloquent swirling sea of black and white.....breathtakingly beautiful....and endless hours just walking or sitting with them and enjoying their company
When they look up at me and I look back into their eyes... its like being connected and being at one with a soul-mate....and although my friends and family have...and have had many great dogs....I have never experienced that same depth of connection in the eyes of any other breed.
So......I think I've got to face it...admit I have a life-long addiction.....and say that I am too bewitched by the Border Collie to consider any other breed of dog :)

Personally nothing beats a siberian husky! I grew up with border collies and as much as I love the breed I dont think I could go back to owning them after having my huskys! To me they are so beautiful and so much fun! However I would love to own a japanese shiba inu. Ive been researching them for a while and they seem like amazing little dogs who would fit in well with our lifestyle and of course our huskys!

Got to say,now i have a newfie id never be without and hope in a few years time to get another to join stan,i have found myself now i have a big breed really liking big breeds,i like the mastif,i like the boxers, but my heart is with a newfie,x

I have had Flatcoats since 1981 (scarey!) at presant I have 3 flatcoats, and a Lab x Golden & a working cocker. I have the lad x golden as I puppy walked her for guide dogs and when her guide dog owner died she came back to me. I had always liked the personality of working cockers and promised myself that one day I would have one. I was not disapointed! she is miss personality PLUS. Through my dog training classes that I run, there are other breeds that I could see my self having, I would like to think that there will always be a Flatcoat though. I just love dogs, and other breeds do interest me.
I have had GSDs for many years and then got a westie who we love to bits, as i am down to 1 gsd now , was feeling a bit broody so in 4 weeks time we will welcome gsd puppy Anna into our family

Forgot to add to mine the one breed I always wanted was English Bull Terriers but OH and previous OH
hated them and thought they were ugly............

I've grown up with a few different breeds around me , I like to show my frenchies and dogues , but also have a rott (who is simply adorable :) , an old sharpei and xbreed . However I love English bull terriers Alice was my first but she was very naughty and took a bite out of my face when she was quite young :( , but I loved her soo much that I worked around her temprement problems . When she died of old age my mam bought herself an EBT dog Murphy he is lovely but we done our research and he came from a great breeder who bred for temprement and not just looks , I'd have another if I didn't have children infact I think I'd have a housefull .
I also love Italian greyhounds but just not practical in our house , promised myself one when I get older. I am one of those that love all dogs I don't think there is a breed I don't like , I could do a list as long as my arm for dogs I may possibly like to own.

I think EBT'S are just beautiful :) , don't get how anyone can think they are ugly :)
Farm bred Border collie, who's father could be anybody. Before you say anything give me chance to go and get my hard hat on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always had labs but in the future I sorry we would like as additions a flattie>
you'll never look back once you have a flattie ;)

Gsd 's without a doubt but I agree once a flatti person always a flatti person (roll on next summer). Having now also owned a toy breed I would add a pom sometime.

my dearest wish is that there will always be welsh springers in my house till I go to the bridge--for sheer love, sense of humour, intelligence and beauty they will always be my first choice. Notice I didn't say anything about reliability in training/working :)

I think I'd be quicker naming breeds I wouldn't have ! lol, I just love dogs !
I have SBT's and a TM at the mo and would have both again, but I would also have, Scottish Deerhound, Bloodhound, French Bulldog, Pug, EBT, Lowchen, Rottie, Dobie, Leonberger......I could go on but you'd lose the will to live lol. Many of the breeds I like I'd never have in reality, as I know I couldn't provide the life style they need to be happy, but I can dream.
