i am crossposting this for a friend.

Has anyone heard of these symptoms..

I am posting this on behalf of Dave&Mira, who'sDane Daphne is seriously ill as you will probably have read on another thread, firslty it was thought possibly a reaction to 'sniffing' at pine needles on a Christmas tree, but that has now been discounted.
The Dane has since become much much worse, with large blisters in her mouth, throat, ears and now onto her pads also. Some of the blisters are weeping and contain a green puss.

She is being treated by her vet with steroid injection, and painkillers along with Anti Biotics but it still not clear what it is that is causing this reaction.

We wondered if there is anyone who has possibly experienced any symptoms like this previously and if so please could they get in touch either with DAVE&MIRA on the Dane owners fourum, there is already a thread on but not with all the details, or to myself via email or Forum (my name is jeeves on the forum).

pemphigus, has been ruled out by the vet and the symptoms do not seem to match E.B.A. either, nor does it seem to be a reaction to the drug Rymadryl, basically at a loss.

Daphne is seriously ill and needs help, she is now not eating / drinking properly and is very weak.

If anyone can offer any advice at all please do. Thank you all again for taking the time to read this.
Terri (Jeeves) on behalf of Mira&Dave and Daphne of course.

Thie following is a quick update on what has happened:

Symptoms: Fri 7 Jan
Took Daphne to the vets because she drooled constantly and smelled differentlyVet gave her antibiotic injection Sat 8 JanBack to the vets, she perked up a bit but still drooling, Had another antibiotic injection and took antibiotics home with us Sun 9 JanHer nose started to look very sore Tue 11 JanHer nose looked really bad.Had mild GA (kept to shortest time possible as she has DCM), camera revealed ulcers in her nasal cavity and mouth, had also X-ray of headVet thought she ate or inhaled something toxic to cause those ulcersAdvised to carry on with antibioticsCame back home very sleepy but had her dinner All her blood results were fine (sample taken before the procedure) Wed 12 JanShe was fine in the morning, but by dinner time she could hardly stand to eat her dinner and later that night couldn't walk out for a wee. Her heart was beating like crazy. She slept all night.. Thu 13 JanWas much better in the morning and when vet came to look at her at lunchtime, she was walking fine again. She gave her Rymadryl injection and took a blood sample to check for digoxin levels. Blisters in her ears started to appear later that day.. Didn't give her antibiotics that night as thought she might have an allergic reaction to it Fri 14 JanWas much better today, went to vets to decide what next. Vet was very happy with her, she was wagging tail, chasing birds in the garden.. Ears didn't look too bad.. Decided to leave antibiotics off for the weekend and then would decide what to do next. Had another Rymadryl injection..By evening she got worse, and her mouth started to swell and looked really raw inside Sat 15 JanSaw different vet today, she was advised if needed to give her another Rymadryl injection which she hadEars were really starting to look bad, very raw and weepy. Symptoms still progressing overnight Sun 16 JanTook her to emergency vet who gave her Rymadryl and Morphine injection to help her to sleep and be more comfortable. He didn't want to start a new treatment as he thought she needs to be referred to a specialist. By this point she looked really bad, ears so wet a weepy, mouth very sore, couldn't sleepIn the evening noticed sores starting to appear on her paws. Didn't eat, just couple of mouthfulls in the evening Mon 17 JanHer vet couldn't believe how much she deteriated since Fri. Started her on steroids and had antibiotic injection.

So sorry to read this post, the only thing I would question is if the dog had recently had a vaccination?
It seems odd that the vet is treating her with ab's and steroids without a diagonsis and to me she seems to need to see a specialist ASAP.

Please let us know how she gets on.

So sorry to hear this, it reminds of my friends Irish Wolfhound, she had month ulcers, drolling, and weight loss.
After weeks of various drugs the vet opened her up and found a very long length of plumbers tape, the tape was wraped around the underneath of her tongh so she had swallowed two ends of it. It had gone all the way though in the intestines.

Its hard to discride it, but there were meters and meters of the stuff going though her whole digestive system.
She survided it.

Probaly allready been thought of but could the Christmas tree of been treated with something?

Really hope she will alright.
Please let us know.

Gosh, how horrible for them all--it sounds like a progressive poisoning. I can't imagine what and I am sure the owners will have racked their brains a hundred times over as to what she might have been in contact with. Aren't trees treated with chemicals to stop needle drop...could she have licked or chewed the tree, or got at the water?

I hope they are able to isolate the cause--fingers and paws crossed for your friends.

No better but not any worse thankfully.

here is the latest update from the owner..

Our vet thinks it's an auto immune reaction together with a bad infection. Had swab results back today Daphne was positive for some kind of bacteria (can't remmeber the name)and need to change antibiotics to try to get rid of it. But the antibiotics is licensed only for humans not animals, so a bit more risky.. She is starting on them tomorrow..
Will let you know how she is doing on them..
