Well finally acheived the matings, she was such a tart.

Now i'm joining the is she or isn't club for four long agonising weeks. lol

Welcome to the club, as I ahve chosen not to scan I am havng to wait an extra two weeks for my girl so another week or more before I am likely to be sure.

Can I ask why you chose not to scan?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.01.11 20:55 UTC
Don't think she would be too impressed with the procedure, she is an awful fidget and would not stay still to have blood drawn for the Rabies titre, and had to be sedated.

So chances are she would need to be shaved to get a decent scan and if not pregnant would be out of the show ring until the coat grew back.

She is a very muscular cobby bitch and not prepared to relax enough for palpation my usual pregnancy diagnosis choice.

As hubby said scanning won't make her pregnant, in fact they can absorb some time after pregnancy confirmed so I can just wait it out.

The lady I use in Wales doesn't shave and its done very quickly, all in no more than a minute or so (if you want numbers, less if you dont). Let me know if you would like her number though as you say it won't change whether she is pregnant!

Reikiangel, good luck for your girlie!  She was obviously more than happy once completely ready?

Thing is with the breed Brainless (and I) have there is no way you could scan without shaving they carry a double coat on the belly and it is thick only shortly before parturition do they lose coat enough to reveal the teats. That said I am assuming that the head of the scanner needs to touch skin.

My long coated breed are still scanned with no problems by this lady without shaving but maybe your dogs' coats are of a different type.

Yes it does but using water first and then gel, I've scanned through a double coat without clipping.

They have a double coat that grows very close together (number of hairs per sq inch is high) it is almost impossible to use the spot on type of treatment because you can't see skin. Also as I said they grow hair on the whole body it does not thin on the underside although it is at it's thickest on the ruff.

Anyway I am answering a question put to Brainless and I understand she is happy to wait and see.

Thanks, on toes already lol.

Mine's double coated long breed and can be scanned without shaving.  its going to kill me waiting.  have thought about not scanning this time as its such a disapointment when nothing there.  I'm still thinking of progesterone testing though to know exact date.

I've worked out my date for every mating.

I still can't believe how she behaved, instigating it or flirting BIG TIME lol.

Fingers croosed for you Brainless.

I posted as others did, yes my girls coat is different due to breed (of course).

Unfortuantely my vet is only average ablity with scanning, better with palpation, so whenever he said yes with palpation I never bothered to scan.

When I had a negative palpation we ended up clipping hair off the belly because he coudln't get good contact, and in the end she wasn't and wasn't fit to show for ages either.

He might be better at it by now.  But we are almost at 5 weeks from first mating now so the next week should tell, I am trying not to see what might not be there from the thickened waist, pert dark nipples and ravenous appetite, I want to see a bump before I dare hope.

This is what i was thinking, two more weeks and there would be tell tale signs.
