Topic Dog Boards / Health / lump on injection site etc etc!

My GSP yesterday had to have general anesthetic to clean & stitch a vicious dog bite on her back. She has been back home since yesterday 5pm but has constantly whimpered all night & day. I've given her pain killers & antibiotics & she doesn't seem to be in pain. It seems to be more mental anguish. Has anyone experienced these after effects with their dog?

All this happened on 30th Dec 2010.
Rio has now recovered both physically & mentally BUT she has a huge fluid lump which appeared after the drain was removed. This lump moves from side to side whe she does the "dog shake"
She also has another huge lump also soft at the anti biotic/ anti inflammatory site on her neck, this was administered 15 days ago!
The vet has said he isn't concerned with either lump & that they will go away in time.
Does anyone experienced these "lumps" with their dogs & if so how long will it be before they disappear? I have another appointment with the vet on 27th of this month. But of course if I am at all concerned I can visit earlier. My dog doesn't seem to be suffering at all at the moment!
Thanks

I have not seen this on a dog, but my horse developed a lump after an injection on his neck. It was an abcess, it felt hot and got hugh untill it was really to burst.

My dogs have had the lumpiness after having the long acting antibiotic jab after surgery.  Sometimes they have taken a while to disappear too.  I would only be worried if they drain site was smelly, or inflammed etc but if not, I'd leave well alone :)

My dog sometimes reacts to injections and the lumps can easily take 4-5 weeks to go down.

One of my girls always gets lumps at the site of injections. She had a shot of Metacam a week ago and it is still there. If I remember correctly she got one last year that took 6 mths to disappear completely.

Our Dalmatian had a swelling around his injection site about a year ago after having an op to remove urinary stones. The vet said that it should go down on its own in time, but the swelling grew so large that it began to impinge on his nerves so much so that he temporarily lost the use of his back legs so he had to be taken back down to the vets for it draining.

Oh my Hilly that sounds a lot worse than my dog's lump! Is he ok now?
The fluid on the bite site is now subsiding but the one on her injection site is looking bigger! I've looked up in her records & found that this happened to her in 2002 when she had an anti biotic injection.
Trouble is this lump has come up 15 days after the actual injection! I can't understand why -if it was a day or so after it would be more feasible.
Also I'm wondering (as you do!) whether the dog that bite her detected something wrong with her which was making her vulnerable to be attacked!
As she is fine in herself (eating drinking bodily functions walking playing squeaking barking! etc ) & she has to see the vet in 10 days time I'm thinking of seeing if it will go away on it's own.
Thanks for your input.
