Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Show Rules?
- By Katy.showgirl [gb] Date 13.01.11 13:16 UTC
Hi all,

In looking at limit show rules I have noticed one thing about champions. at a limit show is a dog that has won a cac from abroad been allowed to show at a limit show?
- By Lisakom [gb] Date 13.01.11 13:19 UTC
No dog is eligible for exhibition at a Limited Show or Match competition which has won a Challenge Certificate or obtained any award that counts towards the title of Champion under the rules of any governing body recognised by The Kennel Club.

That is exactly the same paragraph I have read in numerous schedules and on websites.

I was wondering if it is common for a dog to "slip through the net" and be shown?

I was told many years ago that the Kennel Club have no way of checking up on everything going on in the dog showing world.

So they rely on another way.....very effective.

Fellow exhibitors acting as informants.

Works a treat.

Limit shows are not that numerous so people are woolly on the rules altogether and it would not surprise me if all sorts of things slip through.

I had always thought that Limited shows were limited by membership but I was told recently that it can be limited by anything like area or distance so I am now not sure and have to say not as yet been moved to check it.

Thank you, this does make for very interesting reading. And thank you Tooolz for the heads up on the "informant" part. I'm sure its just a misunderstanding on the exhibitors part and they didnt meant to enter their dog.

I thought it was membership too, so that is very interesting, thank you for posting Jackie.

I have no idea if what I was told is correct but it may be it does make sense.

I was reading the WELKS schedule the other day & membership is limited to is "open to women only who must be resident in the Counties of Berkshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Wiltshire or Worcestershire"
So I guess if they held a limit show it would be very limited on who could attend!

This made me laugh!  Brings home the 'dog eat dog' side of showing doesn't it!
Sad times.

That is because WELKS stands for West of England Ladies Kennel Society there are plenty of clubs that are much narrower than that if you go by the membership. There is for instance the Coventry Ladies although I don't know what geographic limits they have.

This was told to me around the time they brought the Crufts qualifier in......long long ago ;-)

Think it would work even better if they were not asked to put money where their mouth is but guess that they though that would stop malicious complaints. There are complaints made but not that many I do not think although a few may go through the show secretary as they have to report on any indecent at their show.

Have no idea of the ratio of the complaints received but most that are reported in the gazette seem to be acting in a manner prejudicial (either with a person or an animal) and a few who have won from the wrong class (think that would be thrown up by the KC's own computers)

lol i know what WELKS stands for, I was just giving an example of a possible show being limited only to members but also being a member is limited. :-D

Hmmmm I wonder if any dogs have been entered into Crufts that haven't qualifed & have never been found out. The KC only keep record of stud book number results, so one could fib on the entry form & hope the KC don't check. They can't check all 22,000+ forms.......can they?
- By Nova Date 13.01.11 20:47 UTC
Think the printers keep a check because they offer you the classes you can enter when you do an online entry so they must have the records.

> printers keep a check

This is one reason why, I informed them of an error in a qualifying class, for the show I have just judged, they had 3rd & 5th as the same dog!!
