Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Judging at None KC Events - Quick Question Please

Are KC Judges allowed to judge at an un-licenced Fun Dog Show?
- By Lexy [gb] Date 11.01.11 21:03 UTC
I dont see any reason why not & I assume when you say KC Judges you mean those who have been passed by the KC to award CC's??

Not positive but I do not think the KC looks kindly on judges who are on breed lists if they judge at unlicensed events. The can't stop you doing so but they can then stop you from judging at KC events, would depend on what the event was and who was running it but I would think it best not to do so if you wish to continue to judges at events licensed by the KC

Thanks, it isn't for me but I seemed to remember something being said once before. WIll pass on the info.

Can't go into details but in the past and sometimes now these unlicensed events are run by some pretty unsavoury people and the events may not be insured so care must be taken if you really wish to continue with your KC judging as the KC think that to be involved with this sort of event means you render yourself unsuitable for judging at KC events. It only costs £10 for a licence so unless the show is doing something against the principals of the KC I do not think there is any need not to have a license.

But if it's only a fun dog show, ie novelty classes and no pedigree classes, they don't need a licence so why pay out the £10?
- By Nova Date 12.01.11 09:24 UTC
As long as they are insured and can find a judge and exhibitors will attend then no reason at all
- By Nova Date 12.01.11 09:26 UTC
Actually Goldiemad it is not just judges who are discouraged it is exhibitors as well although their participation is less likely to be known about.

Thanks for your advice and comments. Just to be on the safe side, we are going to do it as a licenced Companion Show, the last thing we would want would be to get the Judge in trouble.

Sure you are wise, seem to remember the KC did crack down a few years back when some of the events being run were being run by people who were not acceptable to the KC, had been bared from showing or were not doing it for a charitable cause. Understand it does not apply to you but it could be you would find that exhibitors would not be keen to attend although most would not notice

THe KC did backtrack as they couldn't stop judges and exhibitors from going to these shows.  I've been to a few of them in the past and they've been Clubs that due to costs etc. I would think their Club as such discontinued. All the ones that i have been to have been extremely well attended (better than many of the KC open shows) and have been really good shows with some quality dogs there.  Also there have been many good judges judging them who are at the top of their game, so it's not that bad.

I find them great for youngsters as I think you can show pups from about 5 months.

I must admit I love them. This will be our third year at the same venue, I just hope last years rain hasn't put people off. We do this as our main fund raiser for rescue, and as the dogs are coming through thick and fast at the moment, the proceeds will be put to good use.
