hi guys
As you know i have a staff pup she will be 10mths on monday, she has just started her first season today, the thing is she has started fearing things that she wasn't in the last week when she started getting swollen, she is very clingy which i realise this is normal but i'm not sure with the other and was wondering if any of you have had this experience with your bitches.
Do i do anything different or treat her with kid gloves so to speak or carry on as normal.
I apologise if this is a weird question but have never come across this for myself but would appreciate any of your own stories/experiences.

She has been checked over by the vets as any kind of noise she is making herself known and that includes barking at the sound of the wind she is her normal cheeky staffy ways just feeling like she's feeling sorry for herself.

It is not uncommon for pups to go through a second fear phase anywhere between 6-14 months old for most breeds.

Hormones can cause all sorts of unusual behaviour when a bitch is in season but you may have to bear in mind that this season could be  coinsiding with the second fear phase.

hi suzieque
thank you for that link very informative,i really thought i had done something wrong as she just doesn't seem to be as confident as usual but still getting cuddles and just doing a little bit more training so she isn't getting bored.

She has really bonded with my 2yr old daughter i even found them both asleep in her crate both cuddled up together(usually they are nicknamed the terrible twins lol.

thanks again for taking the time to reply i really appreciate it.

Treat as normal.  A lot of bitches go really funny become touch sensitive etc etc.  It will pass.

thanks brainless
I know what you mean by touch sensitive as went to take her collar and lead off(as doesn't wear a collar in the house)and she acted if she was hand shy and made herself so close to the floor with a worried look in her eyes(was sad to see her like this)she is normally so mischievious(hope i've spelt that right lol)and confident.

i have been ignoring this behaviour and keeping her mentally active with hiding treats all over the house with help from kids lol.
She also seems to be scared of the dark lol when she was having her walks(haven't taken her out for walks since she started bleeding)will this be ok or just take her for some road walking or better for her to walk her after she has finished her season,as i don't want her getting to stressed your opinions please.

thanks

I continue to road walk my in season bitches, but they have all theri fellows with them and we don't have loose dogs around here, with high fees to get dogs back if picked up by dog warden.

Its not like that round here everytime you turn a corner you never know if there off lead or on them stupid extendable leads and the owner is never paying attention on there little mongrel thing which is aggresive and that's late at night and its even worse in the day time as young idiotic males have there status dogs of lead its a nightmare(sighs)
I may just get up a little earlier and take her out in the mornings.

Thanks brainless for your replies you have been very helpful thanks

Hi, I dont want to be negative-I had a white GSD bitch that had her first season at 10 months & had a complete personality change .Went from a very outgoing friendly confident girl to being completely different, unfortunatly all the classes socialisation etc did not change her back ,if anyone came to the house she hid behind settee under coffee table (that was fun she was twice the size of it) or took herself up to the bedroom to hide under bed.On walks being white had a lot of attention (not wanted by her) she would hide behind me ,hit the floor and visably tremble with fear. never aggresive just so sad to see.In the house with just family a real comedian such fun and I still miss her daily .Lost her last march aged 12.I still feel for her she just never seemed to get any braver Feel she missed out so much because of fear as we did not put her in situations that would traumatize her in the end.Vet said that she had had a complete change of hourmon's due to season.
Hope you have a different outcome with your girl.Best wishs J
