I have a bitch who is 3 in March, (passed all health tests for breed), she has always gone 8 months between seasons, she was due in season in August (along with 2 others, 1 came in, in july and 1 in aug).

She Finally came in to season in December so 12 months after her last one (almost to the day)

She started bleeding, dark red colour for only 3 days, stopped and then came in to season 7 days later. I checked her with one of my proven males to see if she was ovulating, he would just sniff her and walk away, so presumed she wasn't. (this was when she was here from 1st bleeding until taken to stud dog owner, as didnt want to miss it just incase!)

Took her to the stud dog three days later , so would have been day 13 from 1st start of bleeding.

She has been with the stud dog owner for 8 days now, so would be day 21, or 11 from second start of bleeding.
I have males here (not same breed)

Dog is proven and has had 3 litters previously, he was interested at first and attempting to mount but not beside himself (im sure people with dogs
l understand this bit) but she wasn't standing, flagging or even wanting to know him really, so left her there.

Phone calls to the stud dog owner every day, and the same happens,  flirting playing he sniffs her trys to mount but not really trying that hard.

They have been caged at night in the same room and the dog would normally be whining, and beside himself trying to get to the bitch in season if she was ready.

The question is, i have never had a bitch have a split season, do you think i should leave her longer with the stud dog owner, (her bleeding has gone lighter coloured so, should be about the right time) or has she  already ovulated, or hasnt she ovulated yet....

Also asking around some people say that she could have an infection, blank season...

Have also been looking online at split seasons... i presume this is what she is having and they only talk about it for bitches on their first season, this would be my bitches 4th season.

HELP!!!

I had exactly the same with my last litter and the bitch re-started her season from scratch so ovualted around 14 days after the second start of bleeding.

Hi

We've had two girls of our own with split seasons and several visiting ladies also.

The typical pattern in our experience has been that the girls come into season (vulva swollen and bleeding as normal) however; they didn't have a "season" type smell about themselves and were really not happy about the boys having even a cursory sniff at their rear ends let alone standing for the boys.  Boys curious but not overly interested.  Then the season appears to end very quickly without the girls going through the flirty and enticing stage and everything returns to normal as if the whole thing has run its course quickly rather than the typical proestrus & oestrus signs, symptoms and behaviour.

Within about 3 - 4 weeks, the whole thing starts again. Second time around there is a "season" type smell to the girl and the boys are interested (properly interested!) and everything goes normally through the season to the point that the girls are standing and flirting and the boys are very interested and a happy and natural mating has occurred with puppies arriving 9 weeks later.

We had one visiting girl who was flirty and more than willing to be mated, experienced stud dog also very keen.  We did a mating on day 11 of the season as both parties willing (despite the fact that I couldn't smell the girl was in season, her anatomy was indicative that she was in season).  However, with that girl she went out of season the day after she was mated and came back into season 3 weeks later, we repeated the mating and she conceived 8 pups from the second mating (a good sized litter for the breed)!

There may be hope!! I do hope that I can get her mated, got so scared about her having an infection.. or being infertile!
Even had a cry, she is the most beautiful dog with a wonderful pedigree and has done alot of winning for me. I am so proud of her, so i am keeping my fingers crossed for her!!

All is not lost!  Please don't give up on her yet.

One of my girls had a season for 2 weeks, and totally stopped.  No swelling, no discharge, nothing.  I didn't want her mated so wasn't worried, just thought it was a short season.

After one week, on day 21, she started to bleed very heavily, was very swollen, and blood loss was heavier than normal.  When, 7 days later (day 28) she was still flooding, alarm bells had me worried about pyometra.

Rush off to the vet, who looked up inside with some instrument, and informed me that everything was healthy, there was no infection, and it was a normal season.  I didn't consider it to be normal, and asked for antibiotics.

Got home from the vet, and opened the back door for all the dogs to have a wee.  Went in the kitchen to put the kettle on.  To find my girl tied, with a total grin all over her face.  She hasn't read the book that says they mate when bleeding stops!

As it was day 28 (in theory) the vet said it was pointless having the mismate jab as she wouldn't be pregnant.

Durrrr!  Wrong!  So don't give up on your girl!

I just wanted to post as I to was in the same position as you in June and am now sitting with a litter of lovely pups from my 'tempremental' girl.  I sent her to the stud dog on day 8.  Same as you she had only bled slightly on day 1-3 but I counted and sent her on the correct day.  She was to stay for 1 week but after a day, the stud owner didn't think she was in season at all.  Stud was interested but not despartate.  We brought her home having not got any mating.  Fast forward to October and she came into season as normal and everything continued as normal too.
Good luck.

Woo hoo, great news! I have enough trouble with my girl bleeding right through her season, I don't think I could cope if she decided to have split seasons too!!
