9 year old female westie. started 22 Dec doing small squirts when peeing (not all the time 2/3 times when out), behaviour started out of no where - very anxious, panting, shaking etc. Bloods were done-fine. They gave her antibiotic and decided to admit her as she would not eat or drink. X-ray showed no blockages.Urine sample had small amount of blood in it.  Got her back 24th, happier, peeing and pooing normally, but not quite right (if you know what I mean), eating was ok, but showed strange behaviour at times (hide upstairs, slighty anxious). Still wants to on her walks. At vet today who gave her another week of antibiotics. About 1pm she started being strange and his now under my daughters bed. Am really worried as I feel this is not right. Have never had a dog with a urinary tract infection before, does this behaviour go with it. Any help please. (tried her with a small piece of turkey there, not interested, although she did eat this morning).  Sorry should add she suffers with pancreatic insuffiency, but am assured by the vet this is not related.

she may be in pain as a UTI in humans( I am a sufferer ) can be very uncomfortable at least and painful at most. Main thing is that she is drinking try some milk in her water , have you taken her temperature ? maybe a phone call or night visit (before 11 is usally cheaper) to the vet to reasure you is on the cards.

I do have a girl who suffers from water infections I give her cranberry 'complex' everyday only available from the vet .
Your vet may need to test for crystals or stones .

Sorry cant be of more help

Is she given Pancrex or similar with all feeds?

thanks for your replies. She came back round about 4pm and normal behaviour resumed. So hideous to watch. They have said they will scan her next week if this continues, just to keep on the antibiotics. |So I can only assume this is periods of pain.  Jean, yes she has lypex on all her feeds.

Poor girl.  I do hope that you get to the bottom of it.  We feel so helpless when we feel that we can't help them.

You must be so worried, I bet 5th Jan seems ages away.  Let us know what they say.  Sending positive vibes.  Jean

Sorry to hear about your girl, I do know that sometimes when older humans have urinary infections it causes a temperature and the infection can sometimes cause odd behaviour, so maybe this is the same with your girl :(  I hope she feels better soon.

I presume the scan ruled out crystals or stones??

Just to update-vet school did more blood tests. The liver is showing up with minor damage. Still waiting on thyroids coming back (should be back early next week), he has decided to scan again to have a look at the liver. Thankfully the last couple of days she has seemed much more like herself. Will let you know how she gets on.

p.s no crystals or stones were seen in first scan

at least you are on your way to finding out what the problem is. Good luck
