Hello I had a litter born on wednesday  (toy breed) which normally has 1-3, she however had 8 and unfortunatly last night a little girl died she weighed 77g at birth and went down to 71g. I made sure she was sucking on mum every half hour but she became weak and unable to suck so I started to feed her royal canin babydog but she still didint make it. A boy which weighed 63g at birth has gone down to 59g. He wont take any milk from bottle or mum. I am syringing it into him but he keeps trying to spit it out. Can anyone think of anything to help keep this boy alive? The other 6 are gaining nicely.

Oh honey my heart goes out to you. You are trying your very best. My girls litter toy breed also was born last sunday but evn 4 is a lot for a first time mum. I hate to think how my girl would manage with 7 or 8. Make sure you are letting her suckle as much as she is able and top up very small amounts very slowly so milk goes directly into stomach. Nature has its very sad way aometimes. Big huggs

are the runts dehydrated at all? do the pinch teston the back of the neck. I would use liquid life aid if they are as it will be better you to supplement with this and suckle from mum till hydrated properly, this will make the world of difference if they are hydrated as the energy will be there plus make sure they are warm enough as cold pups cannot digest milk...
