- By chel-chihuahua [gb] Date 14.12.10 18:39 UTC
hiya iv got a chihuahua puppy, she is 12 weeks old... iv noticed that she shakes a lot during the day, my house is warm and i sometimes put jumpers on her to make sure of this as she has very little hair lol
is it normal and is it just cos she is cold? she isnt ill or anythin she eats normal and drinks normal, happy and healthy other than this.
iv had my other chi from a puppy but i cant remember him doin that
hope i dont sound really stupid but any answer would be greatfully received, thanks x

Sounds to me like nerves, puppy needs to get used to as many sights and sounds as possible with little reactions so they know not to be scared.Puppies tend to shake when they are nervous or in unfamiliar surroundings if they are shy timid pups

My 3 year old chix still shakes at times it is sometimes through excitment and sometimes nerves. She was certainly much more trembly when a pup. As long as she is eating drinking and pooing well i wouldnt worry. One thing to look for in chi is if they arent eating porperly and freuqently qhen little they may have blood sugar problems and that can cause them to snake, but if everthing else is well I think she is probably jsut nevouse of all the new things around her.
I expcet one of the chi people will be on soomn wth some expert advice

thanks for your advice i was worried at first incase it was low blood sugar as my first chi suffered quite badly with it until about 14 weeks old, but she shows no signs off that, probably me just worrying lol, she's booked in with a vet next week so i will post what he says thanks again :)

> as my first chi suffered quite badly with it until about 14 weeks old,

I feed Chi pups a mix of dry and wet feed.  The meat is offered 4 times a day at first.

Dry food is available ad lib.  Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't make dogs fat.  If they know that it isn't going to disappear, they only take what they need, when they need it.

My new puppy owners are advised to ALWAYS leave a bowl of dry food for them to graze at.  It's surprising, as they may only go for a couple of kibbles, but it keeps the blood sugar levels up, and I don't get problems with hypoglycemia.

i would love to be able to leave her dry food down but she generally eats the lot as soon as it hits the bowl, and my older one is very greedy to so would just finnish it, i do feed her 4-5 small meals tho
