I agree totally re the umbilical cord but before ever considering swinging a puppy after birth this link is worth a read. It is now thought by many to be a very dangerous and outdated practice.

Wow, that was interesting, thanks! Mind you I still think my girl is too keen on nibbling the cord really short. Still, both litters turned out fine.
