my girl delivered on the 8th shes a maiden and produce and lovely litter of 7 wow!!! alls going well at present with feeding but am slightly concerned, when she goes out to toilet straight after she shows signs of aggression, her hair stands up and she barks/growls at the pups, seems to happen everytime she leaves the pups for a second but when with pups shes great, i tell her no and she seems to listen and lays down to continue nursing(she will carry on barking/growling until i tell her no) please advice is this normal? what can i do to help?

Is she actually growling at the pups, or is she warning you to stay away? She may still be confused as to what these little things are and could be telling them off  ;-) I've never had this where a bitch will growl at the pups, but I have had one tell me to clear off, at least until she was more settled.

I wouldn't leave her alone with them, but I also wouldn't try to interfere unless necessary. I would watch from a short distance just to keep an eye on them if I were you.

agree with lindylou ,but also thinking whats she like with her food ,if her food is in the bed could she be thinking the pups will get her food? ive seen this before! xx

are the pups spread out when she comes back to the box after leaving? My bitch has often barked or whined (not growled though) as she would want to get back in with them and not want to hurt them, so she was almost asking us to help her move them so she could get in and settle. But she would never move them herself by picking them up. Maybe it is something like this? But like already has been said I would err on the side of caution and just keep watch. :-)

hi thanks for replys.it only happens when she leaves them ie to go to the toilet, she def barking at the pups and fur is standing up on her back noone else was in the room apart from me and i was at a distance almost like she was telling them off she was faceing the pups while barking. i notice that since i have told her off its getting better. apart from that she is a good little mum reluctant to leave them.i am watching at a distance just incase

she is good with her food we made sure of that when she was a pup as have children. i feed her in her box i hold the bowl same with water she doesnt seem bothered. im thinking maybe it is all new and she confused,i know before the pup arrive she would sleep with our male dog on the bed in the front room but wouldnt allow him on the bed in the kitchen which is where the pups are now i give up have no clue why!!! just watching and hopeing for the best
