Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Joint ownership question
- By joec [gb] Date 29.11.10 13:00 UTC
Can anyone clarify something that cropped up at the weekend. A dog being shown in utility class by one owner of a joint partnership. The other owner in the partnership was judging two classes in the toy group. there was some confusion as to whether this was allowed or not does anyone know the ruling on this? Some say the dog should not have been entered others were not sure.

I would have said it was against KC instructions but it could depend on the situation may be the judge was standing in in an emergency.

No the judge was the scheduled judge for the two breeds.

In which case I would say that was against the rules which I think say that if you are judging then a dog in your ownership should not be shown at the show and if the show goes on for more than one day I think the same applies on all days.

Against the rules.  However the KC continues to ignore this rule being repeatedly broken.

Happened in our breed a few years ago, co-owner was judging a different gundog breed.  "Concerned" members of our breed were straight on the phone to the kennel club ........

Was the show Clydebank at Lanark yesterday?  We were entered but couldn't go due to the weather up here, we've over 3 feet of the stuff!!  Very disappointed not to be able to go, do you know who won the Utility group and Utility puppy?  We were in Veteran utility with 2, NSC with 2 puppies and also AV Utility puppy.

As for the answer to your question I would say "it's not the done thing".

You must report this to the KC.  If they do not accept this - send a copy of the catalogue with the names clearly marked - as judge and as co-owner.  If they do not respond write to the dog papers.

Yep definitely against KC rules.  I know because I have SWD's my mum still has Pomeranian's but we keep them under both of our names and she couldn't show at a show where I was judging the SWD's.  Shame really as I didn't know the Pom judge and even moreso as the people who had entered their SWD's had forgotten and hadn't turned up!

Just to echo what others have said..It is against the rules & comes under F(1) 21e Judges may not exhibit a dog for competition or handle a dog in the ring at a show at which they are officiating. This also applies to dogs in partnership, although I havent yet found the exact rule in the red book

Lexy it need not be in the rules separately owning in partnership is owning and the same rule applies the only thing with owning in partnership is that you do not have to sign the entry form if you and your co-owner have agreed that they can sign for you.

Thanks for this I can now clarify this to the person concerned.  Henri3402 it was not at Clydebank not sure about the Utility group but know the puppy group was won by an Akita as my friend's poodle got puppy group 2.

The trouble is the KC do not check every marked catalogue thats sent in after the show, they only check issues when reported
