Had a small well known breed in for grooming yesterday, when the chap came to pick him up he told me that he has just mated him to his sisters other well known small breed for xmas puppies.I asked him when the mating took place and he told me 7 weeks ago, i said to him that the puppies would be born around xmas , no he said they will be sold to there new homes , i was quite confused and explained to him that a dog was pregnant for around 9 weeks , then puppies should be at least 8 weeks old before being homed.
The man went nuts , i said that his sister had told him that the puppies will be born and homed at three weeks old then they should have some money.
I was gobsmacked, i told him the correct way of doing things but to no avail. I feel really helpless poor puppies.

Most people do know that 3 weeks is too early. Even the free ad's make mention not to buy a pup under is it 7 or 8 weeks?. Wonder what they'll sell them for price wise, as coming up to Xmas unless you've planned for a pup not many people have spare funds, especially a couple of hundred minimum.
I'm guessing the 3 weeks is down to the fact that they hope they don't have to pay for food.. Very sad, lets hope she doesn't take then..
Some people are idiots! I was looking on the internet earlier just info on pups and whelping. and I came across an advertisment and had to have a look at the cute puppies and was SO shocked to read READY NOW, puppies are 4 and a half weeks old! :O Was very annoyed and reported the ad as illegal so hopfully the pups wont sell now till there a bit older ideally 8 but at least hteyll get a chance of surviving if they only keep them till their 6!
It really irrates! people pretend they care about their animals when all they see is pound signs, its even more disturbing when tehy cant even obide by te law of 8 weeks!
this is the worst time to have pups to seel because people make money so there can be a cute puppy under the tree ready for their kids to lose intrest!

My babes will be 3 weeks old on Tuesday, and I have been so proud of how advanced they are - that is, they are almost up on their little legs and toddling properly rather than doing the squirming on tummy thing, they are paying attention to voices, and learning tiny woofs and growls, I have even been thinking of trying them on solids earlier than usual (usually start them off at 4 weeks). however, they are still tiny babies, just learning all sorts of things from Mum and the rest of the litter, looking at them it makes me feel so sad to think of this poor litter, if she has taken. My lot of firmly still in the next for at least another 5+ weeks, to think of anyone trying to bring a pup home at 3 weeks old is both terrifying and heartbreaking.

:( idiots, unfortunately, a lot of them out there

My litter will be 8 weeks on the 27th December, ALL SOLD at normal price, but I have told all the new owners that they won't be leaving here until after the 2nd January and they are all happy with that.
I've had quite a few 'wanted for Christmas' calls and they've not been happy when I've said no, they even questioned why I wouldn't let them go 3 DAYS early!!
a good few years ago now well 20, my the next door to us got this tiny pup she came round to my house with it i was horrified!! it was a shep cross rotti the most beautiful pup but only 3 1/2 ,i asked her why she got it so young she didnt know the age of the pup well be both didnt till i went back with her the breeder told us the age he said mum wasnt feeding them and he couldnt affard too :( so gave him what for ,i didnt say to much tho i was only 20 myself and he was a big man! we got pup back home and she couldnt get pup to eat my hubby came home from work he went round to see if he could help he lay on the floor with this tiny boy hand feeding him and that was that we ended up with the pup :) i didnt mind 1 bit! hubby and this dog went everywere together ,he was able to take him to work too he lived to be 9 such a loving boy and devoted to hubby and me but wasnt to good with other dogs sadly even tho he went training and walked everyday with other dogs, he just didnt learn anything from litter mates how could he being took away at this age but gave us many years of love... but i wouldnt ever do this again.

We had a Dutch couple over earlier in the year for a pup and we wouldn't let the puppies go till 8/ 10 weeks of age and they said that in Holland it was illegal to sell a pup I think they said 10 weeks of age and didn't want to take until that sort of age. Something that I think should be applied in the UK with an 8 week minimum.
What ignorant uncaring money grabbers :-( Nothing is surprising any more though is it?

> Even the free ad's make mention not to buy a pup under is it 7 or 8 weeks
although they state this, if the people selling pups are willing to sell them early then why would they be truthful about their age, they could say that they are older than what they actually are and once money has changed hands it is too late.... not everyone is knowledgable enough to guage the age of a pup pre 8 weeks etc.
> its even more disturbing when they cant even obide by te law of 8 weeks!
Actually the 8 weeks selling age is only for breeders that are required to have a breeders Licence due to being classed as commercial breeders (anyone breeding more than 4 litters of puppies in any 12 months, whether at their own premises, owned by any family member, or owned by them living elsewhere, such as bitches on 'breeding terms').
Where it is appropriate for the physical and mental development of the breed puppies may go to new homes a little earlier. I allow my pups to leave the weekend following 7 weeks, if a weekend pick up is best for the new owners, it also allows the pups leaving to be staggered. (My breed club's code of ethics states no homing under 7 weeks).
In some breeds puppies should not be homed until at least 10 or 12 weeks of age. It is wise when considering acquiring a puppy to contact the breed club for advice regarding earliest age for homing.
