for you vet to make a home visit to you?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.11.10 00:52 UTC
Never been able to get a home visit, we have a lot of vets within walking distance and they expect you to go to them, as they have the equipment at the surgeries.

No idea - I have had the vet out to two whelpings - yes, well out of hours...  If I need them, I call them, money isn't an issue if it's an emergency.

I need home visits for one of mine and the vet is brilliant, normally it is £70 something but I live on route from one surgeray to another and if I book an appoinmet for when she is going from one ot he other then she charges me about £30 less so makes a huge difference!

Recently needed a call out 2 days running and I was charged £50 each time, luckily covered by insurance

Never had a home visit to the dogs but for the horses it's £80 just for the home visit - I presume they would charge the same for any animal?

tricky as our vet is approx 100 mile round trip but on the few ocassions they have been out they have charged about £45 for the travel
- By weimed [gb] Date 22.11.10 09:55 UTC
had one out some years ago- a specialist home visiting vet service for my dog and it was about £120 before they did anything.  was worth it on that occassion . vet who came was extremely good.
the normal local vets will not do home visit under any circumstance.

Not sure about a call out charge, but I recently had to take a girly in 'out of hours' and that was a standard £50, so probably on a par.

The only time I had a home visit was when one of my dogs was put down, the vet was local and did not charge me any more than if I had gone to her.

The cost of a home visit often depends on the time of day; after midnight will be more expensive than before midnight, for example.

Our vets don't charge extra for a home visit (they just charge the standard consult fee), if you need one, ie the dog is a nervous traveler/can't travel or you have transport/disability problems yourself.
Which is good as I', waiting for he vets to call em back to arrange to come out to see Buster, he's hurt his front leg (not the one with ED) and is limping something terrible, as we will struggle to get him in the car the vets are coming out to see us.
Fingers crossed it's something minor, but I'm worried out of my head :( :(

we pay £25 for a home visit. Also our surgery only charges £50 to open up at night. I was gob smacked when I found out their charges were so cheap.

Sending positive vibes for Buster.

Thankd Jean :)
Turns out to be nothing urgent with Buster. Vet had diagnosed, (with a physical exam), that Buster has arthritis in his 'good' front leg :( Seems as if it's been there a while and has only been brought to light by falling off the sofa last week. Hopefully, with some metacam & a few days of limited walks he'll be fine for now. So the bad news is, BOTH of his front elbows appear to be ruined with arthritis, good news is hopefully, this is just a blip. Got some physio exercises to do on both his front legs. Completely typical, Bust was jumpng around like a spring lamb with excitement when the vet arrived!

Touch wood, haven't needed to, but I know after 11pm his charge is £140.
The days of All Creatures is long gone!

Now, my vet in Holland charged me a loaf of banana bread for a home visit, and the cost of any meds.

You want to try the after midnight one!  If any of my girls are having difficult labours, they especially choose the 1am slot.  Bless them!
